Pitt won the CBI and McCutchen signed an extension with the Buccos. Not a total loss this year in Pittsburgh, sportswise.

A very well thought out argument...

We're waiting, Mario.
i wish this was an open letter to management to fix our defensive scheme rather than apologize for fueling a heated rivalry.

seriously this should be the last thing on the mind as a fan, the way they conducted themselves was out of rage and frustration. it happens. its the playoffs. their punishment is being swept.

do you seriously want lemieux to APOLOGIZE to philly for a few fights? did we kill anyone or something? its hockey. no need to apologize.

if WE were the ones sweeping them and doing dirt then yea we should prob apologize, but this is just ridiculous.

whoever wrote that needs to go outside and forget about the game. this is too much.

I can't even let myself go there, cause once I do, the little kid dreamer in me actually thinks it will happen. And at the end of the day, in the history of the NHL, only 3 teams have ever done this.

To whom it may concern,

I've been a hockey fan since I was 3 years old when I saw the US Olympic Team defeat the Soviet Union at Lake Placid. That game made hockey an essential part of who I am. When I was 7, I went to my first Penguins game. Randy Carlyle was captain. Mario Lemieux was a name no one outside of the QMJHL knew. There were few hockey fans in Pittsburgh. I've been a proud fan and supporter of this team and have donned its colors and logo with pride every day of every year since then, even when Rico Fata was on the roster.

Until today.
This is laughable. So, he was cool with the line brawls in the 90's. Ulf Samuelsson. Marty McSorley ... C'mon.

Oh, something positive. Hmmm, well, all of these apologies made me laugh. The ones on ****** are the funniest, with the oh so gracious Flyers fans deigning to accept them.

I won't be able to watch the Pens implode again on Wednesday so I won't be upset to see them swept by the Flyers. I guess that's a good thing.

Hoping for at least one win though.

A company that my dad does a lot of business with won a lottery to get Suite 66 (the bar/restaurant along the Penguins' entrance way) and they gave him two tickets to game 2. We got seats on the glass next to the Pens' bench and had access to Suite 66 for the entire game.

The Suite had free food and alcohol and was filled with Mario memorabilia like the stick that he scored 5 goals 5 different ways and his Conn Smythe and Hart Trophies. And we got to watch the players do their full pregame ritual as it is right next to the locker room.

The highlight of the night came after the game though. We we were going to leave but everyone went back into the Suite for one last drink so we followed suit. After about 20 minutes or so of bs-ing with people I noticed Mario Lemieux standing 5 feet away from me! I got so shake his hand and a few of us got our picture with him. It was such a surreal moment and one I'll remember as long as I live!

My dad is to the right of Mario and then I'm on the far right in the Pens cap. If anyone wants to any other pics of the suite I can post them.

Cool pic, I imagine Mario was super pissed at that point.

Nice moment though! Pretty awesome.

Oh you feel how upset he was

Despite that though he was very cordial with us, classy guy no doubt. After he took the picture and shook some hands he went to the back table and had a glass of wine with his wife and some friends of theirs and everyone left them alone.

But I heard Mario is a gutless coward who lines his organization up and down with goons and cheap shot artists?

He must of been given a lobotomy in the off-season or something. I'm sure he's going wake up in a cold sweat tonight thinking the previous 33 years on earth were some kind of parallel universe thing.

I'd like to tell this guy to shut up and stop being an AW.

I'll gladly take his seats.

lol I know. You'd think Sid and company went The Last Boy Scout hockey version on the Flyers. ****, Pens have done way worse than today. Did this guy sleep through the original Matt Cooke era, it wasn't that long ago.

Positive:

This team can win 4 in a row.

... but a lot of things need to happen.

Fleury has to play well. He's capable.

Crosby has to get his head on straight.

Letang has to get his head on straight.

Malkin has to play like he has all season.

The defense just has to be... ugh, at least reasonable.

Again 4 random teams...sure.

Against Philthy??? Doubt it. Look at how long it took us to finally beat them at the CEC for pete's sake.

The ONLY plus is that Sid isn't concussed yet, by some miracle. Of course, that will probably change in a few days.

I'm convinced that all this self-flagellation on the part of some Pens fans due to the fact the game got a little out of hand is fueled by narcissism. I guess for some being deeply invested in hockey means proving to everybody how "objective" and "fair minded" you are (see link above). They want to out-do other fans in cheering for a team that evades all Internet forum criticism (where fans try to secure rhetorical moral victories for their teams, where their "team" could not score actual victories on the ice). They want to be seen as above reproach and hypocrisy, unlike those unwashed homer masses who are frequently oblivious of just how guilty they really are ...

But at the end of the day, what do you want? It was a few fights. Big deal. Maybe there was a dirty hit or two that will be (justly) punished. At least our floundering team doesn't yet fully resemble a corpse.
