They have stunk against the Flyers this year, there is no doubt about that. They have gotten into the Pens' heads and have really thrown the Pens off of their game.

However, going into this game 4, the Flyers could easily get wrapped up in being upset about the Neal hits and the Asham hit and looking to try and fight or even the score. If that gets them off of their game and we are able to play desperate and win that game, then we go home for game 5 and a win there makes this series very interesting.

I know this is the optimism thread, and believe me, I am staying optimistic, but I do have one concern:

Despite my optimism, the one thing that concerns me greatly is Fleury. Ever since the Islanders game on 3/27 where Fleury was run once by Neilsen and then tried to come out to make a poke check on Okposo and got drilled in the head by Martin's knee, he has not been the same goalie.

He allows 4 goals on 23 shots in the next Isles game on 3/29. He allows 5 goals on 25 shots in the Flyers game on 4/1. He appeared to have a bounce-back game, allowing only 2 goals on 37 shots against the Rangers on 4/5, but the Rangers weren't playing for anything in this game and didn't really give it 100%. He played well statistically in the first half of the game against the Flyers on 4/7, allowing 1 goal on 15 shots, but I couldn't say that he faced a lot of tough chances. Then the playoffs start and he gives up 4 on 26, 7 on 30 and 6 on 28.

I just wonder if Fleury is suffering from some kind of head injury from the Martin knee to the head. I remember watching that play and thinking he had to have suffered some kind of head injury from that, as it knocked his helmet off and he seemed shaken up. He has been abysmally bad since, failing to make a lot saves that I feel like he would normally make. He has seemed just a fraction of a second slow in reacting and getting into position, and he has been very bad on breakaways which were always his strength.

If there really is something there and he is playing through concussion-like symptoms because he doesn't want to let the team down, especially in light of the fact that Johnson has been shaky this year, then we are obviously doomed.

Yeah, right I'm a drama queen because I don't believe we can win four in a row. But it's the wrong thread for this.

Dont forget the Flyers themselves did it as recent as 2010. That being said, it basically comes down to one man and one man only: Marc-Andre Fleury. If he can miraculously turn things around, he'll give this team the only shot it really has.

My positive contribution? At this point, I honestly can say

Also, I just redid my 2012 household budget. One upside to having this team lose losing in the first round is that I can afford a vacation or can redo my patio.

You see what happens when we can't agree on playoff avatars? A George divided cannot stand.

I'm very doubtful it'd happen but can you imagine how sick it'd be if we took them out in these next 4?

Boston pissed away a 3-0 lead against Philthy in 2010. So it is do-able. Even though they won yesterday, perhaps all of the carnival sideshow crap has given us a slight edge?

Something positive, something positive...

*crickets*

...OH, we stopped wearing our hideous third jerseys in the playoffs. That's something.

And Bos was leading 3-0 in the game 7 too. It really was a choke job of all times by Rask. Blackhawks were very close of coming back against Van last year after going down 3-0

I think we should at least win one game before we start talking come backs. Even in the positive thread.

Something positive: I was able to pick up a ton of extra shifts at work this week to give me an excuse to not watch this trainwreck any more. Then I'll have more money and I'll buy more things that make me happy with it.

most everyone I saw say they were embarrassed was saying it because of the goonery and playing like idiots. That wasn't the kind of hockey I want to support. Losing to the Flyers isn't the embarrassing part.

Something positive: Pens are good enough to win some games if they play with their heads on right.

If they even show up, it's a WIN in my book

Seriously, even if we did win. Neither of these teams are going anywhere with the HOT garbage they call defense:

Pittsburgh is averaging 4+ goals a game
Philly is what 7+

Once either plays a team that is commited to Defense, it's over.

Well I got a new girlfriend and won money at the casino all in the last week. So that's probably saved me from going on a legendary bender of doom equivalent to a Direct TV ad of badness after watching the first three games.

1 Period at a time.
Be disciplined...very key for the Pens in this series.
MAF....we'll see if he has guts.
The Power play needs to be potent.
Play better defensive hockey.
James Neal doesn't get suspended.
Penguins play Penguin hockey.

All these things can result in a Penguins win. A long shot, but still a shot .

It's funny how, in the regular season, winning 3 or 4 straight really isn't a big deal. In fact it wouldn't even be considered a "winning streak". The Pens can do it regularly. Hell, we've won 10+ straight before. Fast forward to right now and the thought of winning 4 straight just seems so impossible. But it isn't. You just need one to get the ball rolling.

So I guess the positive thing I'm saying is... there's a chance.

The only positive is this debacle will be the first series to end.

Then there are still 7 other series this round + 3 more rounds of bad hits, diving, and fan outrage to overshadow our embarrassing goon show.
