Possibility: Marc Crawford. Snow played for him briefly on two teams. He didn't coach this year. Might want the chance to get back in the league in an under the radar role.
I don't really know much about his coaching style, but having a veteran coach would be great for Tavares and the rest of the kids. Also could have an influence on veteran UFA's that want to play for him.
I also agree with Botta, bringing in Thompson as an assistant would be stupid. The guy will be head coach and needs to stay in that position in the AHL until he makes it as a head coach in the NHL.
I hope Thompson would be smart enough to reject an assistant coach offer only to hold out for a head coaching job. We all know Weight is being groomed so taking an assistant job would not make him any closer to the head coaching job with the Isles.
We need to keep Thompson down in Bridgeport and send Nino down next season. I'm confident Thompson will handle Nino the RIGHT way. Playing with Kabanov and Nelson certainly won't hurt either. Anything is better than playing less than 10 minutes a night with Pandawful and Reasoner (except for watching from the press box).
Even when the team goes on its annual November slide, bringing up Thompson after firing Crapuano is not the answer. Let Weight be the filler, just don't remove his interim tag after another lottery season. Or maybe we can give Steve Stirling a call in November

On another note, who's a worse coach, Capuano or Stirling?
I find myself comparing those two all the time. The only good thing Stirling ever did was call Janne Niinimaa a *****. Still trying to find a positive on Capuano...
Unless they changed the rules you can play and coach at the same time, though no one these days would do something as dopey as that unless they were trying to save money. Uh oh.
A Question For Everyone: What if they don't fill the positions to save money?
Then they should just hire me to stand there and occasionally point at something & pat players on the back. At least this way there'd be a full coaching staff on the bench & we'd have the appearance of a professional team. I'll do the job for relative little pay as long as I get full health, eyes, dental & a 401K.
Oh and I'd need like a 2,000 signing bonus so I can get myself some suits and stuff.
Don't get me wrong, from what I've seen, I like him a lot, but I'd rather have Thompson stay in Bridgeport where he can continue to develop our youth. With all of the players set to be there in the next season or two, we need someone who is good with young players and he has seemed to be such a coach.
I'd rather have Thompson stay in Bridgeport.I like how well he's worked with the youngsters.
And as lousy as Cappy has done with the isles,I am not looking at him as the longterm answer as the team's head coach.Thompson will find himself swept out when Cappy is eventually not resigned/fired.
