First candidate: John Grahame. Former Bruin (check), former goalie (check), former Islander (check), middle name is Gillies (check.)

Possibility: Marc Crawford. Snow played for him briefly on two teams. He didn't coach this year. Might want the chance to get back in the league in an under the radar role.

Yeah Snowy screwed the pooch with that one, Dean Chynoweth at #13 instead of Joe Sakic (who went #15).

Nah. Sakic will never amount to anything - too soft and too slow. Give me a strapping Western Canadian farmboy any day...you know, to play hockey.

I don't really know much about his coaching style, but having a veteran coach would be great for Tavares and the rest of the kids. Also could have an influence on veteran UFA's that want to play for him.

I also agree with Botta, bringing in Thompson as an assistant would be stupid. The guy will be head coach and needs to stay in that position in the AHL until he makes it as a head coach in the NHL.

Crow previously interviewed for the job and didn't get it.

No way he'll accept an assistant coach job. Especially on Long Island.

Plus Crow didn't like Moulson while in LA.

Its only been a quarter century since that draft, I think we need a little more time to evaluate who won.

Here comes the AHL coaches merry go round.....They will bring Thompson up as an assistant and when we lose 12 out of the first 15 they will fire cappy and make Thompson the head coach.....

If Thompson gets to the Calder finals the forget about it, he might get the Head coaching job in the summer....Too Wang and Snow getting to the finals in the AHL is like reaching mount Everest.

I hope Thompson would be smart enough to reject an assistant coach offer only to hold out for a head coaching job. We all know Weight is being groomed so taking an assistant job would not make him any closer to the head coaching job with the Isles.

We need to keep Thompson down in Bridgeport and send Nino down next season. I'm confident Thompson will handle Nino the RIGHT way. Playing with Kabanov and Nelson certainly won't hurt either. Anything is better than playing less than 10 minutes a night with Pandawful and Reasoner (except for watching from the press box).

Even when the team goes on its annual November slide, bringing up Thompson after firing Crapuano is not the answer. Let Weight be the filler, just don't remove his interim tag after another lottery season. Or maybe we can give Steve Stirling a call in November

GET YOUR TICKETS NOW!!!

On another note, who's a worse coach, Capuano or Stirling?

I find myself comparing those two all the time. The only good thing Stirling ever did was call Janne Niinimaa a *****. Still trying to find a positive on Capuano...

More a 'who cares' move as long as Yabba-dubba-do is the HC.

Oh-oh, Garth Snow's job responsibilities just expanded.

Let's see, Snow's the GM , Director of Amateur Scouting , he get's coffee/lunch and now he's an assistant coach who has to take video home with him .Snow's got a lot to do.

No wonder he's got no time to improve the club.

Just think of the cleanup crew, pls....

Thirty empty water bottles and twenty hot dog wrappers behind the bench each game is a lot to ask for those poor guys to handle.

I think you're onto something....a goaltending coach tandem of Grahame and Dunham would just be something the Isles would do

Does anybody get the feelin that Steve Staios might be an assistant coach next year?

Unless they changed the rules you can play and coach at the same time, though no one these days would do something as dopey as that unless they were trying to save money. Uh oh.

A Question For Everyone: What if they don't fill the positions to save money?

Then they should just hire me to stand there and occasionally point at something & pat players on the back. At least this way there'd be a full coaching staff on the bench & we'd have the appearance of a professional team. I'll do the job for relative little pay as long as I get full health, eyes, dental & a 401K.

Oh and I'd need like a 2,000 signing bonus so I can get myself some suits and stuff.

I'd rather have Thompson stay in Bridgeport.I like how well he's worked with the youngsters.

And as lousy as Cappy has done with the isles,I am not looking at him as the longterm answer as the team's head coach.Thompson will find himself swept out when Cappy is eventually not resigned/fired.
