To me, saying he isnt ready for the nhl playoffs after 1 game is as much a qualification as saying he is a rookie making his debut in the playoffs. Give the kid 2-3 games before you make a decision, one way or the other. A statement either way without a decent sample size is very naive.

This is a perfect scenario for Kreider. He is on the first line with 2 NHL stars. I would think he will get a point or 2 in the next few games which will only help his confidence.

Once the season is over, Kreider will probably have a good understanding what it takes at the NHL level. He will have all off season to train and prepare. He has a great chance to make the team next year and be on a veteran team with many great players with a great coach. You have to like how the Rangers are developing Kreider.

He's been at the right place at the right time A LOT.

Just needs to be a second quicker/more aggressive.

Yep, he's had more scoring opportunities than 3/4 of the guys on the team and yet only plays 1/4 of the time because Torts doesn't trust him defensively.

So I'm guessing he wants to win and lose by 1 goal... Keep prevent defense mode, Torts..

He played less than 4 minutes and had at least one very noticeable chance. I mean... I understand Torts being conservative to a degree, but how about giving him a little PP time? Let him play 7 minutes instead of 3.5?

Yes, he's in the right place at the right time, but with that said he has been very tentative and shy of battling for pucks, he looks as if he's not "hungry" enough or too shy.

he's got very few minutes under his belt, this was an important playoff game. I dont blame him 1 bit for being conservative with Kreider.

Dude looks terrible out there from what ive seen in the limited ice time in 2 games.

Has NHL speed and size yes, but that gives a sense of false advertisement. I really wouldnt object to giving him some time in the AHL to adjust to the pro level. Seems like the type of player that some time in the AHL would do wonders for him.

People need to remember not everyone can make that jump from Juniors/NCAA to the NHL as easy as others.

Sens fan saying he's a victim of way too high expectation from you guys. Though, we'll probably be guilty of the same thing if Silfverberg ever gets over here.

Honestly, I didn't see him enough in his second game to tell if he'd improved in the areas he needed to improve in on his first.

I wager that Torts felt the same way about his game that I and others did leading to him playing less than 4 minutes, but that's pure speculation.

He needs to have a bounce-back game where he's engaged physically and mentally. I don't know if he'll get it in tight games in the playoffs. I hope he shows what he needs to show to earn some time this season.

I thought Kreider wouldn't be able to beat out a player like Mitchell, but watching Johnny Malkin dog it and blow his assignment on the Michalek goal I'm not so sure of that anymore...

He bailed on the forechecking on his first shift. I think Torts bailed on him at that moment.

Torts loses faith too easily after one bad play in players.

Let the kid play. Might as well dress Scott if he's only going to get 3 minutes. Bad management by Torts tonight.

Its quite simple really. Kreider got 3.5 minutes of ice time because hes not currently NHL ready and is a warm body until Hagelin comes back from suspension.

Tying this loss to Kreider not playing is a mindboggling conclusion.

I thought Torts overreacted a bit. First game he puts him in a Hagelin role which I thought was too much. Second game he hardly gives him a role at all.

Give him Zucc's role at the end of the regular season where he gets 7-10 minutes of ice time and then time on the 2nd PP.

It's a useless role only playing 3-4 minutes. And given the scoring opportunities he's had (which others have pointed out actually trumps 75% of the rest of the team as it is) he isn't a completely useless player for us right now, especially considering our goal scoring woes.

When he's out there, the kid looks like he may actually pot one. Can you say the same for 60% of our lineup?

I don't think Kreider's ice time has anything to do with the loss and I don't mind him being sheltered/kept in a conservative role and even shelved late in the game (unless the sticks come to life and we have a large lead). I just think that 3.5 minutes is such an infinitesimally small amount of ice time that there's no way anyone can be drawing a fair conclusion about the kid's skill or 'what he needs'. And it's not as if he hasn't had a decent opportunity in each game. For some of our guys, even saying that much is a stretch.

I understand Torts' approach but when we're starved for scoring, I could see giving the kid just a few more minutes, especially early in the game. I'm not expecting Kreider to suddenly blow us away with 6-7 minutes of ice time or a shift or two on the PP but I do think he's barely getting enough ice time to even get acclimated and get his game going. I just think expecting him to be able to show ANYTHING in 3.5 minutes of ice time is just as unreasonable as expecting him to make in impact making his debut out of college in the NHL playoffs.

Like someone else mentioned, I think Tortorella was looking to shut down the Sens after that 2-0 lead.

Defensive hockey = no Kreider.
