A possible PHI/PHO trade; thoughts?

Just chucking this out for thoughts and opinions.

PHI
James van Riemsdyk

for

PHO
Oliver Ekman-Larsson

Couple of things. Before the trade deadline we were rumoured to be dangling van Riemsdyk to Toronto for Luke Schenn before JvR suffered a concussion. This was a trade I may have been more for than against. Don't get me wrong, I do really like James van Riemsdyk but believe he is the best option we have if we were to trade for D-man.

For me personally, Ekman-Larsson fits the bill. He's been a blueliner that I've admired for a couple of years now and even with the addition of a draft pick, I think this could be a deal that could interest Phoenix. OEL's entry-level contract is up at the end of next season so he'll be in for a raise.

We've just extended Grossmann's contract (which I am delighted about), Kubina's a UFA as well as Carle at the end of this season (would you offer him a raise?). Coburn's new deal kicks in next season and so does JvR's. Lots of things to consider when it comes to the blueline and a lot depends on Pronger's status for next season, too.

I don't particularly like discussing things until the season finishes and but wanted to know everyone's thoughts.

Thanks.

P.s This may actually be my favourite Flyers team in my 15 years of following! Go Flyers!

Done, done, done. I'd drive JVR to the airport. Unfortunately not a chance in hell Phoenix does that.

Even with our first chucked in?

There are a couple of D-men that I realllly like in this years draft (Maatta and Ceci), hence why I'd be reluctant in giving it up and all depends on whether they fall to us, which in all honesty, is unlikely.

I love JVR but I do this 10 out of 9 days a week. OEL is a stud.

Phoenix easily says no.

Heck yeah. Hell, I would add a first rounder to get it done.

No. They wouldn't touch that either. OEL is ridiculously good and he's only 20.

As much as I'd like to see JVR stay, this is too good to pass up, even if we add a 1st.

But, as mentioned, Phoenix takes a giant dump on it. They might not have many fans, but I'm sure they'd all be pissed lol.

As has been said, there's no way Phoenix does it.

They might do it for Couturier (young, potential 1C, plays their kind of game, and a Phoenix-born boy), but I wouldn't do it.

What about JVR + (1st?) for Columbus 1st (and 3rd?)

Use the pick to take one of Murray or Dumba. Columbus gets a young, high-pedigree North American forward who can come in and play next year.

Not sure I'd do it. Not sure Columbus would. I think something like that is more likely.

Of course id do that. Homer would have to be mentally challenged not to.

However, as previously stated, there's not a chance in hell Phoenix gives up oel.

If homer were to inquire about him, phoenix would likely ask for something like Couturier and a 1st. That alone should tell you how much they value oel, and I wouldn't be willing to give up what it would likely take to get him.

Columbus laughs and hangs up. No where near the value that pick has.

Meh, I'm pretty sure, if the pick is traded, that value won't be far off. JVR is a former 2nd overall who, while not a star, has developed reasonably well before being way-laid by injuries this year. The flyers add a mid/late 1st on top of that.

Add into consideration that, by most reports, Columbus has significant concerns about Yakupov / Grigorenko because of their past experience, and I'm not sure it's laugh-worthy.

Just out of curiosity, what sort of value do you think it has?
