The Story So Far

Through 2 games in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, the Florida Panthers and New Jersey Devils have split the series, guaranteeing at least 5 games to decide this one.

The Devils opened the series with a 3 goal 1st period outburst that broke the record for most shots allowed in a playoff game period by the Panthers. The Panthers responded in the 2nd with a 2 goal comeback attempt but fell short in a lifeless 3rd.

In Game 2, the Panthers, still at home, came out early by scoring the fastest goal in Panthers playoff history, and the fastest playoff powerplay goal since 1987. From there, the Cats built a 3-0 lead, only to watch it also shrink to 3-2 in the 3rd. Somehow, they held on to win their first playoff game since 1997.

Tonight in Game 3, the series heads north to Newark, where the Devils will try to use home ice against the Panthers. Two evenly matched teams will fight tooth and nail for the chance to lead the series 2-1.

News And Notes

Primary Target

Patrik Elias, one of the great Devils of all time. He has been a notorious Panther killer through his career and has already managed 1 goal in this series. He is the longest tenured skater and holds team records in goals and points in addition to winning 2 Cups.

Red Hot Cat Of The Night

Marcel Goc has 3 points in 2 playoff games, and his faceoff skills were key to winning game 2.

Tonight, Game 3...

LET'S GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!

It is critical we win game 3 IMO. We need to get a road win ASAP because we all know what can happen if you drag things out.

In addition to all the things we did right, including hitting as a pleasant surprise, we need to try to take away Marty's legendary stick handling game. He needs to be challenged, just shy of running the goalie or getting interference penalties. Marty's not the same Marty from 5 years ago. He doesn't get rattled or anything like that, but he's simply not quite as quick and quite as agile. Just a fact of life that we need to take advantage of. Pressure Brodeur.

We gave up a decent draft pick to get a 4th line player. Disappointing.

Has his play really gone south this quickly? I hadn't really noticed, but I guess that in itself is telling. What is he doing wrong? Or is he just kinda floating?

Floating might be putting it nicely. Other than the first game he played for us, he's been useless. The rangers are just killing themselves laughing as we speak. Wolski is the kind of guy you pick up on waivers, not in a trade. He did help a little in shootouts. But not very much.

he had a game tying and 2 shootout winning goals, iirc, that 3 points were very helpful.

however he has been very quiet during these first 2 games.

I guess you aren't.

Without Wolski, the Panthers aren't division champs.

Look at the box scores since he was added to the lineup.

Even if it was just that first game, THAT was enough to make the difference... and a third round pick has very little value.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I have been wrong a bunch of times, most recently about Weiss, but I gotta say this is just not true. Wolski has been well worth a 4th. Besides, there would have been no guarantee of waivers. Finally, he's played just about as well as Matthias.

This is a tough series for a skill guy like Wolski, the Devils give us little room.

i believe a 3rd rounder only has a 12% chance of even being in the nhl.

Long series, plenty of time for a Wolski, or a Mathias to be a hero. There's a Matteau in every crowd.

I'll be driving down to South Florida for a wedding...unfortunately, my first day driving down will be Thursday.

So, do any of you know which bars play Panthers' games? I'll be driving down I-95, then ending up in Tamarac, so anywhere along the way would be helpful.

Assuming the Ale Houses still broadcast games?

Not sure. Drive usually takes me 11-12 hours, and am unsure what time I'll be heading out Thursday morning. I figured I'd anywhere from Martin to Broward counties around gametime.

Duffy's is the official sports bar of the Panthers so they better have it on.

I wasn't aware of the shootout impact. Still not happy with him. This is a guy who had 60 points not to long ago. I expect MUCH better. And I see value in any draft pick in the top 3 rounds. You see lots of good players come out of the third round, regardless of what the odds are.

We gave up a pick to help in the shootouts, which got us into the playoffs..

There are no shootouts in the playoffs..

Get Smithson in there.. We need a good righty center anyway. Would have used him in that last draw of the game.

If you're just inside palm beach county there's Hurricane Grill on Donald Ross, and Yard House off PGA Blvd.
