Pacioretty had his own serious injury to recovery from. It was March 8, 2011 when he collided with the partition at the end of visiting bench at Bell Centre. The hit left Pacioretty with a fracture vertebrae and a concussion that ended his season.
That damn evil partition. How dare that partition do that to him...I can't believe that he just collided with it. No outside influence at all.

Good for Patches!!!

He's definitely the least deserving IMO.

If it would be the Trohpy that is awarded annually to the National Hockey League player who overcame an injury and came back like it have been in the last few season you would be right.

But this is the real definition : is awarded annually to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey.

Alfredsson is a great exemple of this.

Well, with a broken neck that, if it was 2cm up, he could of never walked again, I think it fits.

I didn't say Pacioretty wasn't a good candidate I just said that Alfredsson was deserving the trophy as much as the others two guys and I was answering to another poster.

Disagree with that one. The Lady Byng is pointless, the Masterson is well worth winning.

If Patches wins it I could just imagine him going up to accept the award and sayin: I would like to thank Zdeno Chara, as I could not have won this award without him

All three are good choices for finalist, but if Patches doesn't win, I'd be shocked.

And it would be hilarious and a bit of a shot to stir the pot for next season if he thanked Chara

Good for Pacs, but I think Lupul wins it. The only surprise would be Alfredsson.

Fair point. But, what has Alfredson done? He's old and keep playing? Why isn't Lidstrom, Teemu, Whitney or Brodeur nominated?

He had a back injury ?

I think I read it was the type could have ended his career.

Instead of the useless Bing Trophy, they should have a trophy for THE BEST OVERALL PLAYER (whatever his team's standings) , which would be different than the MOST VALUBLE PLAYER (to a guy who really made a difference on his team's performances and standing).

They should also add a trophy for the BEST DEFENSIVE DEFENSEMAN.
