Hal gill status

I'm not seeing many people talk about this so I thought I would start a thread. We are doing great without him, but imagine how much better we would be with him??
We traded a second round pick for him and he was for playoffs only really seeing as he is a ufa after season.

Has anyone heard ANYTHING about when he may be back?? Thanks guys!

GO PREDS!!!

He skated for 20 minutes today, but left the ice early. That's better than the last time I heard anything about him. Then he skated for five minutes before leaving the ice.

I would think if it was a broken bone he wouldn't be skating til he's healed. So if he's testing his stamina I'd guess he's badly bruised and trying to see when he can tolerate enough to go.

I would honestly be shocked to see him at all this series. He must have gotten a fracture of some kind. Pretty frustrating considering this is the time we got him for...

Trotz talked about him in today's after practice press conference.

Dr. Barry says he's "day-to-day"

Normally that means medically induced coma .. but we've seen footage of him at practice. CGI?

I heard that he had skated on his own for a bit before skating with the team for the aforementioned 20 minutes. And that he left the ice when contact drills began. Sounds like he's getting there. I would think he's not in game shape.

I wonder if 8-10 minutes of Gill is better than 8-10 minutes of Hillen or Ellis. At least he could kill penalties. Then Weber or Suter could play more ES minutes.

If/when we get past Detroit, I'd bet he's ready for the next round.

I'm assuming Trotz means he has been fitted with a prosthetic device to replace the foot and is doing on-the-fly rehab.

Favorite Trotz quote from a few years ago: There's a difference between playing hurt and playing injured... I expect him to be in next game".

I saw that he skated with the team for 20 min and that Trotz wasn't even expecting that much out of him. Still day-to-day.

Hopefully the few days off after Tuesday helps and he can get back in there Friday. I'm surprised how well the D has held up without him and at the same time I wonder how long it can keep up the current level of play without him......

The old Don Cherry mantra, if it you haven't lost much without him, wait until you struggle to re-insert said player

Would also love to see Gill back, but if he isn't available I would still rather see Hillen than that damned Ellis.

Gill was on the ice this morning. Not sure for how long or what drills he participated in ... also not the first time he's been out there during the morning skate and couldn't make a go of it.

Ellis gives us more on the PP that Hillen, Hillen is a bit more reliable at ES. Neither is a great option against the Wings due to their lack of size and experience. Seeing Ellis trying to take Bertuzzi to the boards on Sunday made me laugh.

No surprise. I'm thinking we won't see Gill until the 2nd round, assuming we get there.

Hahaha, well looks like we are on different thought patterns lol

Who would most of us rather see play? Ellis or hillen?

Keep in mind our first ever playoff win in Detroit had Ellis in the lineup.

I think Gill is a great veteran presence and size we need since Shane left.....with that said, I'm not sure how much benefit he would be in the series even if he was healthy. Refs seem to be whistle happy, and I would be afraid he would take some extra penalties just because of his size. Not saying he wouldnt be a boost to the D, but maybe it's a small blessing.....

In this situation, I would go with Hillen. He has 2 games in this series under his belt. He, like Ellis has only played in about 8 minutes per game, but unlike Ellis, they have all been at even strength or PK and has looked more solid defensively. I think we need Hillen's EV minutes and defense over the promise of Ellis' PP offense (which created 3 turnovers on the PP in the first game).

Babcock is really pissed about all of Detroit's penalties the first 3 games and they will try to stay out of the box, so the Ellis PP advantage will be further reduced.

so what if the wings were pissed about penalties. didn't stop them from taking them in games 2 and 3. I fully suspect Trotz to go with Hillen, but I still think Ellis si the better opton.

I see Ellis as the lesser of the evils.

Hillen tried way too many soft passes up the boards from his own defensive end that resulted in turnovers for my liking. He looked impossibly uncomfortable with the puck on his stick, I feel like Ellis is less likely to give the puck away in bad spots.
