No. He's putting up points, but Nate is still the better prospect.

MacKinnon is built stronger and plays more of a PF type of game while Drouin is more about finess.. Nathan is a more explosive skater as well.. So I would say the edge goes to Nathan but not by very much IMO.. Both guys will be impact players in the NHL..

He looks much more like Crosby than Mackinnon that's for sure...

His play with the puck reminds me a bit like Giroux, especially that shot and release of his. As much as I like Drouin, and I've been on his bandwagon since he finally came over to the Q.. I don't think he can bump Mackinnon, and I don't think he will be better than Giroux but that's because of how high I am on the latter. I feel the same with McDavid if Giroux is used as his mid end potential

I would be shocked if McDavid topped out at the season Giroux just had, he is going to be a who will be a face of the NHL.

I said mid not his top potential, which would be the best player in the league.

And what would be so shocking about that

He is like nothing ive seen before from a 15 year old, He is just that good that I think he will be the next Crosby, and I am never one to set unrealistic expectations on a player.

Not saying it will or that the situation is the same, but if Drouin really outproduce Mackinon but the later is still the top draft pick because of his physical advantage, could we see another Falloon-Withney. But on the same team, one outproducing the other but taken later because of the finesse game he play and the smaller size. The situation didn't reverss in Falloon-played earlier but Whitney obviously outproduced him long term.

P.S. Not comparing Mackinon as a player to Falloon, nor am I saying Drouin will sleep to the 2nd round.

Drouin reminds me of a hockey version of the Harlem Globetrotters. This kid has INSANE puck skills. Like off the charts for his age and will one day be one of the world's best with the puck on his stick. He's also really adept at picking pockets and stick checking. Loves to strip the puck and move it down the ice the other direction. It's an amazing skillset all around. Great package of ability.

That said, he's a cherry picking son of a *****. Never ventures beyond the hash marks in his own zone. Loves to just hang out around the blueline, standing there and waiting around. Similarly, on the forecheck he's not exactly about to cycle. He's content to chill put and find good shooting lanes or QB from the half wall. There really isn't anything wrong with any of this. I definitely feel he will be wildly effective inspite of (or because of) these qualities.

HOWEVER, MacKinnon will almost certainly be th higher pick because of his assertiveness all over the ice. He's like Jeremy Roenick. That makes you a first overall pick. It just does.

I think they will be both elite players in the NHL but I think its to soon for further predictions, If Nathan ends up playing for Columbus, he wont have great support around to put alot of points, a bit like Rick Nash never could prove himself in that market.. If Drouin is drafted by a better team, he could outscore Mackinnon no doubt..

He does have some of RNH in him. Good stick handling and puck stealing abilities too.

It'll be interesting to see just how high he cam climb. I wouldn't quite put him in the conversation for #3 with Barkov/Monahan quite yet, but with Lindholm slowing down a bit recently, I wouldn't be surprised if Drouin start popping up in the top 5 in most lists now.

Question for those comparing him to Giroux:

I can see the similarities in terms of hands, hockey IQ, flawless finish on breakaways, PP dominance, size and skating. What I'm not really seeing is the edge/physicality, does Drouin show this at times and I've just missed it? Also, in every game I've seen him play he's been on the wing, has he played much centre in the Q, or in midget AAA? Do Moosehead fans think he could play both positions (like Giroux), or is he more likely to be a pure winger at the NHL level?

I've never seen him play center, he just looks like a better winger... Can control the game more from there.

He doesn't play with a lot of edge, but he's very strong... Those however are different things from physicality like Giroux has..

Hasn't played C in Q but was drafted as one. He might play both when he plays in the NHL. Wong be surprised.
