Whereas Drouin has some work to improve defensively (and I have no doubt he will), it is quite unfair to refaif to him as if he were a perimeter player and didn't go into the corners or other traffic areas. He is not a physical player and does not have MacKinnon's natural physical strength/power but Drouin ain't afraid to get his nose dirty and he goes into the dirty areas à la Claude Giroux. One thing to add too is that Jonathan is a gamer who shows up when it matters and he is an incredible hard-worked, even in Halifax being the first on the ice, last off the ice type of guy at practices. I still have Mac slightly ahead and I expect it to remain that way until the draft but concerns about Drouin never improving his defensive play are far-fetched (and he is not terrible either) and comments about him staying on the perimeter are plain wrong.

Drouin with two goals, two assists tonight. Now averaging over 2 PPG.

Anyone else catch the piece on him during Bob McKenzie's draft show?
It's amazing how loud he screams when someone scores, even if he's on the bench.

So much passion/love for the game. It's great. Whatever team drafts him will be very lucky.

Does he play any C in Halifax? I've heard rumours he could become a number 1C in the NHL, but I thought he was a winger? Anyone care to explain?

Played one year on C in midget with Duclair ... None in junior ... I see him being much more effective on the wing in his pro career as he fits that position (with his playing style) better.

Jonathan Drouin #1 overall by June?

Its probably not as far fetched as when I brought up the 'Is Drouin better than Mackinnon' topic last year but who on here thinks Drouin will vault to the #1 spot as the season moves along?

Jones and Mack are great but can a team pass up the offensive whizadry of Drouin?

Redline now has him at #2 and I dont think I have seen him higher than #3 anywhere else.

He has a chance if they go to the Memorial Cup and he really outshines MacKinnon.

I think he will be a winger in the NHL, but it wouldn't shock me if they tried him out at C if he gets sent back to Halifax and Mackinnon doesn't.

In before all the list obsessed posters come in saying no way in hell. Having watched him AND Jones/Mackinnon I'd say it's definitely possible, but a little more improbable at this point.

Not sure I can see Drouin passing Jones. Although he is absolutely on fire. I take these with a grain of salt but he has been chosen one of the game's three stars in 8 straight games, either first or second star (not even once a third star). He has 20 points in 9 games since WJC.

I think he'll go fourth after Jones, Mackinnon, and Barkov.

He will only be the top pick if he can outshine both MacKinnon and Jones at the Memorial Cup. That's assuming both Halifax and Portland can get there.

Best hands in the draft. Seems like Piere Turgeon clone to me.

I don't see it. Teams value centers and dman more highly.. ofc Drouin could switch to C starting from next game and tear it up. and with his hockey IQ he certainly could play C but we'll see. Maybe he'll next season?

Imo there are questions how well his game will translate to next level. I don't see him busting but I think Nate will be better in the Show.

Don't see him passing Jones either, those tools are just too awesome to ignore.

Maybe he could go over Barkov.

It's the draft anyway, weirder things have happened.

This isn't a personal attack just a generality. I don't think any GM IGNORES the skill of any player in the draft. If any GM were to pick Drouin it would be a difficult decision letting Drouin's talents outweigh the talents of guys like Barkov, Mack, and Jones.

Just so you know, he's a natural center and will almost certainly play center in the NHL. Only reason why he's not is so he and Nate can play together.

Sigh. He has barely played a single shift at center in his entire moose heads career. Every top forward plays center in minor hockey. This phrase gets repeated again and again in these threads but can we hold off on calling him a natural center until he actually plays that position at the jr level?

He can and probably will have no problem with the transition but some players find it easier to produce offensively without the defensive responsibilities. See Patrick Kane this year.

Thank you. He played one year of center in midget (not counting anything through timbit to bantam) and played left wing the rest. I remember a very good scout telling Moose fans about Drouin when we drafted him and nothing was mentioned of playing center .... Could he? Yes, but it hasn't been tried and like you say he's similar to Pat Kane, where his playing style fits wing better.
