I think this Swedish team is overrated, no truly great goal scorers.

Sweden doesn't need great goal scorers; Sweden's strength lies in its defensemen and goalie, plus almost all of its forwards having a good-to-great two way game. As a bonus four Swedish forwards are top 10 in scoring right now, all in all making for possibly the greatest Swedish squad since the early 00s.

Pär Mårts was in Vancouver tonight

Pretty sure it was him, saw him walking in the background in the After Hours CBC segment with Luongo

Stralman has continued his steady play for the Rangers this year. He's been one of our most consistent defensemen. It seems like Sweden has a lack of true right handed RD besides Karlsson, could this possibly help Stralman sneak into the squad?

That's a guy everyone forgets about, wouldn't be surprised if Mårts likes him. Gunnarsson and Grossman are two other guys i wouldn't call long shots.

There are probably 3 "truly great" goal scorers in the league (Ovechkin and Stamkos, plus Crosby); after that Sedin is right there with guys like Kessel, Marleau etc. I'm not worried about lacking any individual talent, especially when Steen is tearing it up along with Z, Karlsson over a PPG as a defenceman, etc.

You win in the Olympics like you do in the NHL playoffs -- strength down the middle and depth in scoring, solid defense and good/hot goaltending. Sweden has the best goalie in the world, loads of talent on D, centers as good or better than any other country aside from Canada and in general very good two-way forwards.

Overrated? After Canada, I don't see another country with more talent than Sweden, so "one of the favourites" sounds about right to me.

I know right who would've guessed?
Btw, are there any plans for GDT:s on the swedish board during the Olympic games?

Not really but if that's something of interest we can do it.

Should I start a thread with a poll or something?

Kronwall always plays with a more physical bigger defencive d as his partner. Kronwall is only good at open ice hitting other that hes pretty soft and get abused by bigger players around the net. He needs a bigger partner to clear the crease. Just looka at his partners Brad Stuart or Ericsson. To pair Kronwall with Karlsson or another one with small statue would be suicide.

OEL and Karlsson should run 1st and second pair so that leaves him at third with plenty of pk time with Ericsson.

Hörnqvist is needed in a defensive role imo. As well as Jimmie Ericsson or Joel Lundqvist. I put the players in their position right now in the NHL, except Johansson. Lehner gets jersey #94, his save % right now.

Forwards:
1. 22. Sedin – 33. Sedin – 21. Eriksson
2. 93. Franzen – 16. Krüger – 92. Landeskog
3. 40. Zetterberg – 19. Bäckström – 11. Alfredsson
4. 20. Steen – 18. Berglund – 9. M Johansson
5. 26. Hagelin – 27. P. Hörnqvist or 27. J. Ericsson

Defensemen:
1. 3. Ekman-Larsson – 5. Karlsson
2. 6. Ericsson - 7. Kronwall
3. 4. Hjalmarsson - 2. Hedman
4. 8. Brodin - 23. Edler

Keepers:
1: 35. Lundqvist
2. 1. Enroth
3. 30. Fasth/94. Lehner

Reserves:
*Silfverberg, Stålberg, Zibanejad, Backlund, Lundqvist.
*Oduya, Kronwall, Strålman, Tallinder, Gunnarsson.
*Gustavsson, Markström.
Why are you making up jersey numbers?

EDIT: And yes, I know Lundqvist used to wear 35 for the national team, Kronwall number 7, the Sedins 12 and 20 and so on. But that was years ago and today NHL want NHL players to wear their NHL jersey numbers.

I'd rather play Ericsson with a right handed stick than play Stralman

Sedin-Sedin-Eriksson
Steen-Backstrom-Alfredsson
Landeskog-Zetterberg-Franzén
Johansson-Kruger-Hornqvist

OEL-Karlsson
Hjalmarsson-Kronwall
Hedman-Ericsson/Gunnarsson

Lundqvist
Fasth

I'll admit it's not easy this year. Lots of good players and it really sucks to leave players like Berglund and Brodin out of the lineup.

Brodin is a lock on my team. The only swede that logs more minutes than him is Karlsson.

Just wanted to make sure, Hampus Lindholm wasn't on Sweden's list of eligible players for the Olympics, correct?

I prefer the idea of players playing in low jersey numbers. Kronwall, Ericsson and Hedman in #7, #6, and #2 is som much better than #55, #52 and #77. Just looks silly with all these players in high numbers.

Exit Dose: Lindholm isn't on the list. Not Hampus nor Elias.

I agree, at least with the last part.

My pick atm:

Hjalmarsson - Karlsson (Hjalmarsson is very reliable and a perfect match for EK)

OEL - Brodin (Sick skating, 2-way D, positioning and puck possession)

N. Kronwall - Ericsson (Good 2-way mix and they already have chemistry)

...and then two of these guys:

Hedman - Good size and good skater, which is both positives.
A. Larsson - If he shows good form when the roster is due, I might pick him. Righthanded D is a big need for the team.
Oduya - Good skater and good chemistry with Hjalmarsson.
Strålman - Righthanded.
Grossmann - Big and solid defensive D. Would be a nice option for PK.
Gunnarsson - Simply a very reliable D.

Enstrom is already out.
Edler is suspended for two games. And he hasn't been very good this year and is left-handed. And he is quite slow, which makes him a bad fit on Olympic ice. Thus I wouldn't pick him.

At the moment Hedman and Strålman would be my favorites, because they fill the needs the most. Oduya and Grossmann not far behind. The top 6 D would play almost every minute anyway though...

Thats when counting the game where Brodin left with an injury after 1 minute of icetime. Brodin plays 26:19 on average if healthy. Top 10 in the league.

My D-pairings would look just like yours. Lots of PK time for Ericsson and Kronwall.
