Let's Be Honest Here

Do you realistically see the Wings winning 3 out of 4 against the Preds? We can only afford one lost. We pass the puck too much, we don't shoot, and, I hate saying this, but I don't believe the refs are doing their job correctly. I saw Datsyuk get hauled down a few times by Weber but nothing was called.

I'll be honest with you. The Wings will either make or break next game. If we win, we win the series. If we lose, it's all over and we don't have a first-round pick because of Quincey .

So, a few questions to answer here.
Do you think we will win the series?
Do you think Suter will want to come to Detroit if we lose?
And the big one...
Do you think Babcock will be fired this summer?
I do. He is falling on deaf ears. I love him, and I'd be really, really sad watching him leave, but God, the players simply don't listen anymore.

I'd rather get rid of half the players than Babcock.

I agree it will be hard to win this series now. It's possible but it will be a major challenge. But you gotta look at it game by game, we win the next one and it's a best of three.

Do you think we will win the series?
Probably not

Do you think Suter will want to come to Detroit if we lose?
Nope since Preds will probably lose in the WCF

And the big one...
Do you think Babcock will be fired this summer?
It's not a coaching problem. Its a personnel problem. Team doesnt have the required players to effectively execute the Wings puck possession offense anymore.

Win? Maybe.

Suter? If we offer him the most money, yes.

Babcock? He won't be fired. Hopefully, his assistants will be.

Didn't think he was coming regardless.

But I'm sure we'll still get a bunch of cap geek threads/posts about how we're getting him AND Parise, among others. And if we don't then Holland should be fired.

HIGHLY unlikely.

If the Wings lose in the first round the Wings won't get Parise, Suter, or any of the top flight UFAs to come here. The Wings mystique is fading fast and they can't buy players in the cap world.

Which sucks, because UFA is the only way to address our glaring holes right now. Nyquist developing into a true top-six winger next year will help on offense, but this team won't make it out of the first round next year or probably for 3+ years. If we don't address this roster I see us having trouble making the playoffs within a few years.

We are looking at a defense next year of Kronwall-White, Ericsson-Quincey, Smith if Lidstrom retires. That's an NHL bottom 10 defense. With Lidstrom slowing down that defense may still be bottom 15 even if he comes back. The UFA D pool this year is abysmal after Suter. He's the only D man available who is even top-4 quality.

Only if we win games 4 & 5 -- seems unlikely.

Hell no. Babcock actually understands this team: he wanted an upgrade in the top 6, he wanted Smith up all year, he wanted more size and speed. I'd sooner fire Holland.

No, we will not win the series.

And if Babcock is fired, get ready for another dead things era.

Not that I think it will happen, but something tells me Holland would be fired before Babcock.

I believe the Wings will win this series.
I don't know about Suter. Whether he comes here will have to do more about money and term than this series. Reminds me of the people who say St. Nick is coming back because of the Winter Classic. Give me a break. Babcock ain't getting fired. I have my issues with Babs. But the possible replacements such as Byslma, Torts, Trotz or Laviolette ain't going anywhere. I would love to see those rummy assistants jettisoned if the Wings do lose.

I wish Barry Smith was still part of our staff. I think Smith\Babcock would be an excellent combination.

I always liked Barry Smith. I believe something happened behind the scenes with him. Never heard any of it. But I know some alleged stories with other coaches and players and I think perhaps Barry did something.

I'm tired of coach firing talk...who is better out there on the market than Babs?

I hope for a decent shakeup of the roster...Stuart is a goner, I don't want Hudler back and Holmstrom probably retires. The roster needs an injection of new blood from time-to-time...this mix is starting to get stale. This was a great group in '08 and '09...the league has caught up to them now and they can't just think this group worked 3 years ago that it'll still work. Tweaking a roster isn't a sign of admitting a flaw...it should be about getting in front of the competition.

i would think someone in suter's position would probably rather sign with the flyers.

they could offer as much money, are a similar big market, and seem to have a brighter future.

I agree and the reason is Jim Nill.

He has been here two decades, by all accounts handles nearly as much responsibility as Holland, is already paid like a full GM and probably 10-15 other teams would fire their current manager to bring him in.

And please, nobody take this as me wanting Holland fired. I don't. Just saying Babcock is more important to this organization right now.

Do you think we will win the series? Yes, I won't give up hope until we are out. I thought we could beat the Sharks when we were down 3-0
Do you think Suter will want to come to Detroit if we lose? Its still possible, but I dont think he leaves Nashville(same with Weber)
Do you think Babcock will be fired this summer?
Bring in the players we need to compete with these teams and Babcock will do fine. Our roster is just bleh. It's showed the passed 2 seasons. Babcock has came out and said what we need and it's yet to be filled. Not his fault at all so no he won't be fired.

yeah,i'd say if anything Nill is actually even more important than Holland is right now

he's way more involved in the drafting stuff etc than Holland is

the Wings will really miss Jim Nill a lot if he goes somewhere else someday

I don't think it's really going to matter if we get knocked out in the first round or not, in regards to signing someone. Wisniewski signed in Columbus, Ehrhoff signed in Buffalo, Florida signed a handful of guys...In the end, money will likely do most of the talking and we have gobs of cap space.

Depends on game 4. If we win, I think Nashville starts to feel the noose ... and starts wondering if they're unable to finish us off

I think Suter will opt for Chicago or NYR.. major American cities

Nope. But I can see Babcock resigning.
I think Babcock wants a new challenge.

If you listen to him, he sounds like he gets tired of the grind of coaching and wants to be around for family more.
My guess is he's aiming at a front office post

So, a few questions to answer here.
Do you think we will win the series?

If the Wings play like they can then yes. But they need to get more from the top 2 lines

Do you think Suter will want to come to Detroit if we lose?

IMO he will go to whomever offers him the most money. If Detroit wants him it will cost them

Do you think Babcock will be fired this summer?

I think he if Holland doesn't start listening to him he will resign. He's been begging for bigger and faster players and still hasn't got what he has asked for.

Before the series, I thought the Preds would win in 6, and I still believe in that - Detroit's a PO team, but they aren't a contender.

The home wins streak and very poor March just hid that the Wings are a better than average team, but they have a lot of useless plugs on the bottom 6 and blueline.

Babcock only has so much to work with, the only thing I question at times are the lines, but there's only so much that can be done.

i am confident we will beat nashville the next 3 times.

suter will go where the money is. hes a professional hockey player and has to take care for his family. do you really think hockey players are bound to any city somehow? i dont think so.

babcock is the only reason we are successful with a garbage roster we have. so why fire him? i know holland is a bit senile but not brain dead.
