The Scott Gomez Appreciation Thread...

Without Scott Gomez, we would never have this guy, who is quickly blossoming into one of the best defenseman in the NHL.

Even if you take away Gomez's point production during his tenure with the NYR, he still made a bigger contribution to this organization than Drury and Redden combined.

Plus the cap space to sign Gaborik!

Thanks Scotty!

And the trade gave us higgins which we then traded with Kotalik to acquire Prust and Jokinen, who came off our books last year

Ill give you Redden. Drury gets a bad wrap around here - just for the mentoring job he did on Callahan, he deserves to be held in higher praise.

Gomez quit on the team the last half of 2009. Thats inexcusable. Luckily, Bob Gainey is an idiot.

Shouldn't this be the Bob Gainey incompetence appreciation thread?

I agree with Sting, I'm more appreciative of Gainey's sheer stupidity and incompetence.

If it was up to Gomez, he would still be a Ranger, floating around and collecting a paycheck, and this team wouldn't be where it is today.

The third star of the game should have been Gomez.

Thank you Scott Gomez. I'll be muttering that to myself for years to come.

you can argue that the gomez trade did more than just mcdonagh. gomez for mcdonagh, valatenko and higgins along with the gomez cap dump which allowed us to sign gabbs, higgins was traded along with kotalik (thank god) for olli jokinen (who was ineffective but we got rid of kotalik) and the brandon prust that we all love, mcdonagh allowed us to trade rozi which brought us wolski and a huge cap dump which let us sign brad richards and wolski was traded for a 3rd and cleared cap space for a deadline deal which didnt happen. so one could say that the gomez trade led to mcdonagh, prust, gabby, richards, and a 3rd rounder in a deep draft

I wonder what Sather's first response was to Gainey offering McDonagh. Did he play it cool or was it more like I just signed the deal Bob, hurry up and sign yours.
