PS3 160GB vs 320GB

Sorry for the newb question.

Here's the scenario:

I'm leaning very heavily to buying a PS3 and my reason is more or less exclusively to play sports games (MLB: The Show, NHL, NBA Live if that even still exists, Madden, UFC, etc). And probably pick up Uncharted 3 because it looks interesting. I'm not likely to play the thing a ton either. I'm obviously very far from a hard-core gamer. It's just an entertainment device to me.

I have an external hard drive already for my PC and I assume I can use that for when I download movies and want to play them through the PS3. I may need to reformat the hard drive but that's not an insurmountable hurdle to clear. I highly doubt I'll use the PS3 for music.

So all that in mind, do I need the 320GB PS3? Or would I do fine to stick with the 160GB? I don't want to be hampered by space, but I also don't really want to pay for a bunch of extra memory I will never use. Just hoping that someone will have a little expertise for me.

Thanks everyone.

Why not use TVersity or PS3 Media server to stream content from your PC to your PS3?

Save the harddrive spaces for games.

I have an 80GB and I always have around 10GB+ free.

If you're not a hardcore gamer then 160GB should be more than fine.

160 is more than enough.

You're probably even better off buying a used 80 or 120 one

160 is way more than enough, but it also depends on your config.

I have a PS3 and a 360 but my PC is also attached to my TV so any movies I watch I just run off my PC and I have a ludicrous amount of space on both my 360 and PS3.

I guess if you can't network your PC with your PS3 ... or your PC is just not a good media center than a larger PS3 might* be useful.

Thanks guys.

I'll probably avoid buying a used one just because I'd like the certainty of no weird glitches with the system and the recourse to return it, etc.

I'll go 160GB - there's one in Canada that comes with MLB: The Show for $250. The same store as Uncharted 3 for $40. The 320gb one for $320 comes with Uncharted. Given that I'm going to buy both games and I typically see The Show listed at $60, it seems to make the most sense to buy the PS3 w/MLB + Drake for $290 instead of the PS3 w/Drake + MLB for $360.

Yep 160 is the way to go. If you ever want to expand it in the future, it takes any SATA laptop hard drive. I went from 40GB to 500GB in about ten minutes

Yeah, 160 will be fine. I upgraded my HDD back in the day to 500gb pretty easily, but that was because my ancient PC couldn't stream worth a darn so I would just copy all my media to the PS3 HDD and then play it from there. Now that I have a somewhat better PC I find myself streaming most of my video/music to my PS3 via TVersity or PS3Media Server.

Make sure to pick up Uncharted 2 as well (and I'd play through it first). U3 is still great, but U2 is incredible.

I'm also thinking of buying a PS3. Basically just wanna play Madden, NHL and maybe a couple other random games here and there but mostly use it for Blu-Rays (as I don't have a player yet ). I figure a used one will probably do.

I bought a used one for $120 at Cash converters. Mine is the 120 GB version, and since I only wanted it for a couple games and blu ray movies, it's fine.

Sick! I know for new they're still above $200 but I was hoping used they'd be around $100. Maybe this weekend I'll look into getting one. Pay week this week too

Thanks everyone for the advice. I've figured out what makes the most sense for me.

I've read the MLB: The Show thread and I'm very much looking forward to playing that game and also picking up Uncharted.
