"We are pleased to add Ian to our staff as Director of Player Development,” Holmgren said. “Ian will work closely with all of our young prospects in the system from skill development to fitness to nutrition. We feel that Ian’s experiences and enthusiasm for life and the game of hockey make him the perfect man for this important role.”

“It’s a job that suits me well,” Laperriere said. “It’s one of those jobs that you need a relationship with the young guys and you need to have some experience, and I think I have both. I’ve always been able to relate well with anybody, from 18 year old kids to 40-year-old veterans – it’s always been one of my strengths, so I’m going to use that with these young guys. I’ll do the best I can to help all our prospects be successful. It’s a challenge for me and I’m looking forward to it.

Awesome to keep him in the franchise. I am proud to have an example of hard work, team work and leadership in our front office. Good luck Ian.

Never seen a player make as much an impact as Lappy did in the short time here. He exemplifies what it takes to be a successful hockey player and how a player should carry himself on and off the ice.... as long as he makes our recruits war visors!

Really like how the Snider and Co. make sure that their players are taken care of after they are done playing.

Happy that Lappy will be part of the Flyers family for the foreseeable future.

Well said. I am just very happy for Ian. He brings so much more than just stats to the table. He really seemed to enjoy his role here this past season. You just know he will be pumped up working with the kids. This is just great news.

My hat is off to Ed and Paul for adding men like Terry and now Ian to the staff

The Flyers are one of the few teams in the NHL that really want all the players in the lineup to wear visors. I remember Bob MacKenzie talking about that and how the Flyers were one of the teams leading the charge in making visors mandatory, and this was before Pronger nearly losing an eye and Coburn getting his face mashed in by a puck (which he was NEVER the same after).

Yes, yessity, yes, yes, yes. I sort of expected this announcement to come the same day as his retirement announcement since he has already been doing it for quite a while. I actually attribute some of the adaptation of the current crop of youngsters to his influence. Very pumped its official.

Good luck doing that with Simmonds. He had a couple of scares this season and wore the shield, then removed it. I don't understand how guys can wear it all their lives and then suddenly ditch it.

Hatcher's title is "Player Development Coach", and Laperriere is the director. I guess they'll be working with each other?
