P-Bruins' Exelby out with lower body injury tonite in Portland. Button & Cohen will play. Hirschfeld will not. Svedberg gets the start.

Button probably at the wing again

Torey Krug scores, his first of the season. 1-0 Providence. Hanson and Robins assist.

Bruins up 1-0 on a Krug goal.

Colby Cohen can't skate backwards well and Bartkowski makes some horrible decisions with the puck...it's Tommy Cross time, folks. Svedberg has had to bail these two clowns out a couple times in the first.

Rechlicz and Robins have almost fought a couple times already but nothing doing.

Very sloppy game so far. Portland has been physical but have misplayed the puck several times as well.

Still 1-0 midway thru the second. I think Providence only has 4 SOG this period.

Justion Florek, IMHO, is very close to "getting it." He's playing more physically and is getting involved every chance he gets.

Just as my feed goes down, Pbees score on the PP. Spooner with his 3rd on the year.

Some real ticky-tack officiating tonight. Caron barely touches a Portland player, who then goes down like he's been shot. Caron to the box for "interference." B.S.

Still 2-0 early in the 3rd...

Pirates get one halfway thru the third...2-1.

Portland is dominating in the 3rd but Svedberg has been fantastic tonight. About 1 min left in regulation...

Portland has really been hitting hard tonight. A few of the PBees will be hurtin' tomorrow, for sure.

Providence wins 2-1.

thoughts after the first.

Krug with a goal with bobby robins screening the net. he almost had another but it was pulled back by the goalie from the goalie at the last second as it trickled past him. in the constant comparisons with warsofsky he has been the better player, both on the PP, where he has generated some good offense with bourque, and in his own end with good positioning.

Hansen is a force on the dot. I think he's 4/4 on face offs so far.

svedberg has been very good stopping a few point blank opportunities one with a great kick save on a partial breakaway. also displayed some confidence streaking towards the blueline to thwart another breakaway by tossing the puck out of harms way.

Trotman has shown some poise in his own zone, and has been a willing shooter launching several hard wristers towards the net.

Robins with a matching roughing before the play earlier in the period and then baits another player into taking an unsportsmanlike. playing his usual agitating type game.

bartkowski with some good decision making and good skating early on but a dumb play later with a blind pass in front of his own net leading to a point blank opportunity.

spooner has been mostly invisible but has had a few nice plays. most nobably he hasn't been given much space to work so far.

haven't seen much of anything from cohen, miller, caron, or button, nothing to note on any player.

providence has been losing the game physically so far but has the 1-0 lead after 1.

2nd period.

spooner with a goal on a turn around shot.

caron had an oppurtunity to let a wrist shot go in the slot but passed it up to bourque for a tough angle shot. gotta shoot that if you are caron

svedberg the best penalty killer for the p bs tonight

Amen. Bartkowski has had about 30 chances and he's never worked out. Can't say much about Cohen, don't know that much about him. Maybe this is why? Start grooming some NHL potential rather than milking rotten goods.

Damn. I'll give Lane some credit, that was a pretty damn impressive shot.

So glad we picked him up. Having Tuukka, Khudobin, Subban, who is also doing very well, and him make me pretty optimistic about our future goalie-wise.

To think we started the year off with Hutch... Yikes. Svedberg won the game for them. Probably won't be the only time.

Svedberg was the #1 star. 35 saves on 36 shots.

Spooner #3.

I was at the game last night and besides the fantastic netminding of Svedberg, the two players that shined for me were Trotman and Florek. Limited minutes for both and they made the most of them. Trotman is very poised and more polished then I expected. He has that rare ability to get shots through a crowd which the B's have needed for a long time. His puck retrieval and first pass were excellent. Better skater than advertised. Florek is a beast! Won every, and I mean every puck battle last night. Each time he encounted a Pirate he set them on their seat, every time. He looked much better than Caron in the big bodied forward role. Although Caron's board work is very good.

Was at the game last night and Svedberg stood out the most. How was he not drafted? This game really should have gone to OT with some of the point blank shots the Pirates had on him late in the 3rd.

Just a good stretch for him or a sign of things to come?

I thought Caron would look better but he didn't really stand out at all to me.
