i'm not a gresh fan AT ALL.

i just don't know if it's fair to say his ex-wife got him the 98.5 job because of her father's connection to espn.

that's all. maybe i'm wrong.

Not. Now.
I liked Dale and Neumy and was disappointed when Neumy left and was replaced by Holley. I've gotta say, though, Holley won me over. I though he brought some fun to the show that wasn't sophomoric and he and Dale balanced each other nicely in terms of knowledge: they were both very knowledgeable about the Pats and Sox and Dale was better with the Bruins and Holley better with the Celtics, but both could talk NBA or NHL.

I think a Dale and Merloni show would be infinitely better than the current fare.

dale is sitting in for callahan right now and it struck me how much better he is on the radio than on nesn. seems way more natural.

Agreed. I get why some don't like him, but I think one of his great strengths is his ability to engage the other host and move the conversation along.

I do think he's getting more comfortable with the TV stuff...saw him on NESN daily the other night and he seemed more "natural." That's gotta be a tough transition...

I meant that when you stated he has worked in other markets that we are not alone in our torture of Gresh listening.

As to his wife connection, his first job was with ESPN radio.

Great post. Exactly how I felt. I really stopped listening to WEEI when D&H got canned, then again, that was really the only show on WEEI I listened to with regards to Bruins/Pats talk ever since the Hub launched. I follow Dale on twitter, and whenever he says he's going to be filling in for D&C, I'll switch over for a bit to here him talk some Bruins.

Ah, the bad old days. The A Team. Dale & Neumy. Ugh.

Said again: Ugh.

Whatever their foibles, and in the afterglow of a Cup that will allow me to die peacefully, I'll take F&M. The less said about the preceding program, the better. And sorry if it bores through repetition but I will never, ever listen to 'eei again. Even if TSH were to vanish.

Felger and mazz were talking about the Wideman contract and the HOF voting, a few minutes ago, and needless to say they were both baffled, especially Felger. Mazz even chipped in with, (in response to Wideman's contract) "Then what the hell is Seidenberg worth right now? $22 Million/year?" hahaha

As noted in another thread, the only reason why Felger and Mazz are "baffled" by this is because they haven't paid attention. GMs are locking up their potential free agents because the FA market in recent years is crazy. Felger complained about the Bruins re-signing Bergeron in fall 2010, for God's sake; if he'd hit the open market in summer 2011 he would have had every GM waving blank checks at him.

Felger also didn't comprehend why the Bruins wouldn't trade the #2 pick for Kovalchuk a couple of years ago. The guy has a hard time understanding the economics of the NHL.

Not just the NHL, have you heard him go on one of his 30 minute rants about the NFL salary cap?

I think it boils down to "the cap doesn't matter," right?

Well he's pretty much on point with that. It is a BS salary cap because there are no guarantee contracts and you can renegotiate any deal.

He is right....and wrong.

(Of course I know there is no room for nuance on sports radio, but stay with me.)

The cap IS crap for a few years.....but eventually it catches up with you.

It is the real reason the league has parity, because the cap is not designed to prevent a great team for existing for a year or two or three (four if you draft great for a couple straight years in the later rounds), but you can only kick the can down the street for so long.

The Pats have decided not to kick the can down the street and to just drink a little less from the can in the first place so it never empties.
