But ya, wow, Buffalo? Didn't see that one coming. I'm surprised it wasn't Fred going on some sort of rant about the Jets.
When they traded for Tebow, he went absolutely ballistic, and swore he'd never root for the Jets again. But given the fact that he has constant mood swings, me thinks he was just caught up in the moment.
That is not a good comparison. They at least resorted to talking about another Boston team not another team from another city.

Doesn't one of T&R go to a Buffalo game every season and talk about it in a hipster/ironic kind of way?

If that is the case I still don't see how they would think Boston sports fans would find that relevant. Or is just another morning zoo bit?

Who knows, but at least they were not talking about their personal lives.

Guess what Fred? No one gives a **** about your trip to Disney.

They talked quite a bit about the Heat as well for the next few days after they eliminated the Celtics before they even mentioned the word "Bruins" in a sentence. Not so much about the past series and if there was anything the Celtics could have done to have won, or made the series more competitive, but about the Heat.

It's not a big deal, people are free to talk about other teams in other cities for a little bit, too. I remember last march how Callahan supposedly became a "hockey expert" and a "big hockey guy" seemingly overnight after watching the Bruins play the Blue Jackets (which was likely his first time watching a game all year), and him talking the next 3 days about the Blue Jackets, gushing over Graham Nash and how much better they are than the Bruins, and how a team "with the talent that CBJ have" (and yes, he said that) could be under-performing that badly, and how they needed a guy who scored "40 goals in a season for 3 different teams, like Shawn Thornton." Nobody, from what I can remember, called him out for that.

Think they both played with Hall Gill and Scott Young, right?

Crosby, Gill, Nash and Young?

I've long wished that the Boston sports radio shows were able/willing to talk about more than just the local 4 teams. It gets so redundant to hear the same talking points over & over again.

It just sometimes seems that people around here aren't football fans/basketball fans/hockey fans/baseball fans, but are just Pats/Celts/Bruins/Red Sox fans, and are totally apathetic about anything except the local 4 teams.

Actually, I agree with you. Very few locals can talk about other teams.

It's still better than listening to interviews of drunks outside the game though.

When ask a pink hat first came out I thought it was funny in a super obnoxious kind of way.

Now it has run its course and needs to end.

Hey, let's put mentally ill people on the air and have them say sexual things about the other hosts on the station!!! Hilarity!!!

And this is the crux. You can blame the stations for not talking more of this sport or that sport or this team or that team, but the fact is that there isn't a market for out of region sports teams, and there isn't a mass market on terrestrial radio for hockey talk (relative to the market for football or baseball talk).

Good grief, that's hilarious.

I've actually enjoyed their talks with Andrew Ference because they ask such dumb/offensive questions and he's so cool/polite about it. Andy would make a great diplomat. He's mastered the art of the subtle insult so perfectly that they don't even realize they've been insulted.

Yeah, it's too bad. My Boston sports radio exposure has reduced to Bruins games and logging on to this thread to see if any Bruins related people are doing radio interviews. I'm surprised that there aren't a couple of lunch hour shows dedicated to broader sports coverage to try to feel out the market for 'sports fans'.

Totally. I'm a big fan of Brick, and every now and then when he comes on I'll switch it over and here what he has to say. They throw him a bunch of curve balls, but like Ference, he's polite and answers them.

We have the Olympics coming up, then we go to Disney World, and then (hopefully) Bruins training camp is on the near horizon. The less I listen to EEI (I can't get Sports Hub) the more I realize I don't miss it.
Why can't you get 98.5 online? You don't appear to be living in Canada.

The Bills just opened training camp, they are a division rival, one assumes team previews are in order, and it's late July.

I actually can't get 98.5 online either at my office here in Wakefield. I use the CBS Boston link. I get an error message saying something like oops try another station or try again later.

That's odd. I could get it just fine when house-sitting in MI for two years. The only block I can think of is if you are not living in the U.S.

I usually listen to the radio either in the car, while I'm roller blading, or while I'm cooking. No computer at any of those spots.

what browser are you using? Sometimes certain online radio stations require I.E

I actually do care about other teams...especially when it comes to football and hockey.

The set up was extremely poor, so it made it seem like it was a random event. There was no tease, no lead in, no real rhyme or reason to it. Didn't seem like it was a part of a series where they were previewing the AFC East, or talking about rivals... Just "hey, we're going to talk to this dude from Buffalo that seems cranky about being on with us and only has a few minutes to spare".
