To Tampa Bay:
22nd overall
Roberto Luongo (10yrs - 5.333)
Mason Raymond (RFA - 2.550)

*** 10th overall should be guys like Ceci, Reinhart, Gaunce and Taravainen
*** 22nd overall should be guys like Koekkoek, Maatta, Subban and Matteau
*** Vancouver saves about 3.500 in CAP space


Edit: Perhaps I am under-valuing Malone?
In that case, would Vancouver adding their 2nd (52nd overall) and Tampa adding their 3rd (70th overall) help? Or 4th instead of 3rd (100th)? If its close... Add what you think is needed to get it done.

Malone would have to waive his NTC, which many think he wouldn't do at all or would only agree to in order to go back to Pittsburgh.

Also, not getting into the argument yet again about how Luongo doesn't exactly fit Yzerman's gameplan, I don't see Yzerman giving up $4.5M in cap hit and taking back $7.8+M.

Drop Raymond, change Tampa's 1st to Detroits 1st?

Maybe add a 2nd round pick on either side to even it out if that's unfair?

edit: totally missed the inclusion of Vancouver's 1st. That seems like overpayment from Vancouver's standpoint to be honest.

If Luongo is coming to TB its going to be a pure salary dump for Vancouver. Id offer up a 2nd round pick and a prospect or 2 second round picks AT MOST.

GMs around the league have noted Luongo as one of the best goalies in the league multiple times (4 Veizna nominations).

HFBoard posters have labelled him a terrible goalie who isn't worth all that much.

Don't think its worth discussing Luongo's trade value on HFBoards.

Exactly, we'd be over the cap with that offer. Plus we aren't traded our 1st unless its for Schneider, I don't know people keep suggesting it. If Luongo is such a great goalie then why are you trying to trade him and he's benched in the playoffs. We'll give you a 2nd and Ohlund.

vancouver is not in a position of strength with Luongo and Schneider, they'll be soon enough in salary cap hell (soon being this summer)

Valid point.

However, we don't have to trade for one of Vancouver's goalies, but it's pretty much the majority opinion that Vancouver *has* to move one of these goalies now.

If I was Yzerman I would do that in a heartbeat. There are 2 pieces to a solid team that are extremely hard to come by, a true #1 center and a solid goaltender who can steal games. Contract or not, Luongo is a solid goaltender who can steal many games. Personally I felt Luongo for Malone + the 1st was fair, although Malone + Detroits first is fair-er.
