What I'd do is leave Blum in Milwaukee, acquire a #4 dman to play with Klein, and make Hannan the perma-scratch.

glad to hear about Chet... next year is probably fish or cut bait for Jeremy Smith... either he wins the backup spot or he departs... but either way there should be an AHL spot for him next year to see if he has his mojo back...

how do you propose we trade for a #4 Dman and integrate him into the lineup in the 6 day preseason we will be having?

that might have been an option in a normal year with three weeks of camp but I dont see it happening now...

Yeah, also at this point I think you have to let Blum play and let him sink or swim at the NHL level.

I am big on taking time with prospects, but here, I agree. I just don't think there's anything more Blum can learn in the A other than him realizing he needs the work ethic to join the big club. Hopefully, he's learned that by now.

Klein had that problem, too, as I recall. Seems like Suter might have had some issues with that, as well. With that in mind, I think Blum will be okay. But I do agree, there's nothing left for him to learn or prove in the AHL. He has to make the next move up and stand on his own as an NHL blue liner.

I don't see the problem... Yeah, it's rushed, but every other team in the league has to rush as well. If Poile does his homework, a deal can be made the same day the CBA is signed.

I think with a bunch of CBA changes coming up, more players than usual will be available.

I am just not comfortable with Blum or Hannan getting regular minutes to start off. They are more like backup plans to me. Who knows though, maybe I'll eat my words.

Important distinction here: This squad does NOT need another #4-6 defenseman. What we do need is a #2D we can put with Weber, and the only ones of those available (and the ones that fit our need and price best) are veterans who will decline shortly. Two guys I think we should look at are Timonen (if Philly will move him) and Boyle (if SJ will move him). Won't be that expensive, can play for a year or two on the top pairing, then Josi takes their spot when he's ready and the vet plays with Klein on pairing two until retirement.

Maybe you all think we do but I don't think we do.. Josi is gonna do a better job replacing Suter than a lot of you think. He has all the tools he had and a better shot than him. Yes he's young but he's been playing with professionals for the last four-five years. He's gonna get it done.

We know when Blum is on his game he is a solid 2nd pair man. We have seen it. And scouting reports that I read tell me that Blum has been playing very physical and an all-around better game.

Ekholm is hurt but when healthy he is just as good as any of our young dmen. He's been playing with men the last 3 years and he's got all the tools.

Bartley I also think has the ability To be a solid third pair man.

And we added Hannan....

Weber-Josi

Klein - Gill

Ellis - Hannan/Blum/Ekholm/Bartley

Now if we can add that dynamic scorer...

And need maybe isn't the right word. It's high on my want him. I absolutely love Josi, and think he will do a great job if paired with Weber, but we're in a tough division and need every step up we can get. A Josi-Klein 2nd pairing would be dynamite. Of course we're fine as we are, but a Kimmo/Boyle would make this team drastically better.

And yes, this team's #1 need is a still a top scorer.

Need: #1 offensive player

Wants: #2 veteran D, one more veteran NHL two-way winger to get Yip off the roster, and possible a 1B goalie if Mason doesn't meet expectations.

You have a fair point. Our division is religiously one of the best if not the best. So it certainly wouldn't hurt.

If we could get a Kimmo or Boyle for cheap I wouldn't be against it. It certainly would help us out a lot. Maybe get rid of 1 of our other dmen in the process, like Hannan? A josi-Klein pair really intrigues me. Could be sick.

Weber-Kimo
Klein-Josi
Blum/Ellis-Gill

And I agree with Yip... I want Latta, Watson, Beck, or someone to take his spot fast

I've talked to both fanbases about this over the off-season. Philly fans didn't seem willing to move Kimmo, and since he's a UFA after this year, he likely isn't worth the price they would want for him.

Boyle is IMO the better option. SJ fans said they would do Blum for Boyle straight up (returning Blum to Cali), but honestly, I'm not sure that's a good deal for us. Boyle is done in about two years.

Yea idk if I'd give up Blum for him. But I would involve him in a package for someone like Pavelski but I think we would have to overpay drastically to get him away.

SJ did say they need a big, physical #3C that wins faceoff. I'd love if we could get Boyle for Gaustad+

Yes. Second or third line winger. I think he can be a power forward.

According to the Admirals Roundtable and MJS reporter Dave Boehler; Mueller, Ellis and Blum missed practice today. That makes 12 healthy forwards for Milwaukee, 5 D-men and 2 goalies.
