Galy's first assist was just filthy. Combination of deking ability, passing and vision.

I think Gally will be the 2nd best player to come out of this draft, personally.
Fixed it for you...
If Rielly develops as planned, I think you can use Gardiner as bait to cover another position, since from what I've seen they both play a similar style. Also, don't forget, if the lockout lasts the whole season, you guys have a great shot at landing one of Mackinnon, Jones, Monahan, Barkov, Drouin...

Definitely wouldn't call his skating one of his assets, but it's not bad enough that if will keep him from succeeding imo.

Sick hands on that kid, but the defense in that video is laughable.

I think he's a great skater. He's an incredibly fast skater, but his acceleration isn't the best. It takes him far too many strides to get up to his top speed, so very rarely do you see him go all out. He's a very deceptively quick skater too, he will come across the blue line and then suddenly pick up speed, leaving the defender behind him. In terms of technique, it's not the best, but it's still good.

He seems to have worked on his skating a lot, mainly his acceleration. Its still his biggest flaw in his skating, but it's improved a substantial amount.

The Whaler's squad is laughable. I know Velucci's family a little and I am biased against him and his poor insists to organization depth.

Malahak is brutal. the defense is laughable.

Gally tonight had free reign to do as he pleased. they barely covered him. he was left open on several occasions. that's poor coaching. the kid is NHL ready and i am thrilled i got to see him live tonight. his hands are magical. His skating is solid and probably better than some advertise. He showed very good bursts of speed tonight. he should definitely be in the AHL. He looked bored a little tonight. His skillset is just incredible.

he has good hands but not kovalev good. Not many do. His style is also nothing like Kovalevs either. IMHO, bad example. The kid is a very gifted scorer but tonight he also displayed a very, damn good playmaking ability.

It's possible, but with Gardiner and Rielly on the backend, I hope our forwards don't make too many mistakes, cause we'll pay for it.

Can't wait to see Habs and Maple Leafs (can't believe I'm saying that hahaha) on top again, next draft should do wonders for both of us.

I've seen a few Sting's game this year and it was obvious that Galchenyuk's timing was off. For the last 3 games he seemed to have his groove back.

Even on the game he was kept scoreless against the Whalers, he provoked something every time he was on the ice.

Love his size. He looks really solid on his skates and very square even for an 18 year old.

i think the vast majority of Hab fans will be happy if he puts up 70 pts regularly and not disappear or be checked into oblivion on the road

Yes exactly. 70 points per year would be good for a top 10 center in the league based off last years numbers. I have a feeling that he'll be able to put up more though.

I compare Gally to Kopitar, Toews or a centre Hossa. If he puts up similar numbers to them that will be perfect.

But every player has good and bad seasons, so:
Bad season: 20-25 goals, 30-35 assists and 50-60 points.
Average/Good season: 25-30 goals, 40-45 assists and 65-75 points.
Great season/Career Year: 35-40 goals, 45-50 assists and 80-90 points.

He's an amazing talent. What I like is, he seems more serious this year. His goal celebrations aren't as silly as 2 years ago, he seems all business. As an Islander's fan, it felt like 1991 all over again, Penguins pick # 5 Jaromir Jagr, Isles pick #6 Scott Scissons. Fast forward to 2012, Montreal pick # 3 Alex Galchenyuck, Isles pick #4 Griffen Reinhart. History repeats itself. Knowing the Isles though, they probably would have picked Reinhart anyway, even if Gally was still available.

Here's a slightly better quality, trimmed down version of last night.

Agreed. It's about time these two franchises become relevant again!

I can certainly see Galchenyuk making the habs this year if the lockout ends. Seems like he would benefit from tougher competition and better linemates.

I don't follow the habs, obviously, but a third line protected center role may be what he needs.
