Yeah and Gagner and Tavares are lifelong best freinds too. However myself i'd be lothe to move a 22 year old center with high end 2nd line production.

There is a silverlining for the Isles in acquiring this player. 5.5 is his caphit, and next season he makes 6 but the last two seasons see him make 4 and 3 million. Also he is still an effective, albeit overpaid and overutilized (i.e. run down and over his head) veteran NHL center. He would be great in a role where he mentors kids, can play 2nd/3rd toughs (his best years came in that role), and he adds size and PK acume to the bottom of the roster as well as being able to step into a 2nd line role if needed. I would imagine the Isles would want another asset back in order to take his contract but given the fact they have 2 mature centers on the roster already he could be played in a role that would allow him to be more effective than he has been with the Oilers (breaking in two rookie/young centers a season has caused him to suffer). I also could understand why they would not be interested but this is actually IMO a very interesting possibility for both teams.

Horcoff, Sutton/Plante
for
6th rounder

If i'm Edmonton i'm not giving any kind of significant asset to move Horcoff unless i have to in order to stay under the cap, and i don't forsee that being an issue next year. With an average of 3.5 per owed to him over the final two years, to go with the expiration of his NMC, i don't think it will be hard to move him after next season.

Like it or not, Luongo has regularly been pulled in the playoffs. Not that he hasn't had some very strong series, because he has, but he's also had too large of a share of poor performances. His numbers in the playoffs simply don't command his regular season salary.

Quite frankly, I think Luongo's trade value is heavily dependent on what kind of salary is coming back. This is not to say that Luongo doesn't have value, it's just stating that Luongo's value is tempered by his contract and overall lack of playoff performance.

I think Luongo is a very good goalie on a great team. Most likely, he'll get traded to a very good team and still be a very good goalie. His salary would suggest that he be a great goalie even on a good team. That's going to limit his value to some degree. How much? Hard to predict without knowing what contracts trade hands.

Considering Halak's contract status when he was traded, I don't think that's a strong comparison for discerning Luongo's value.

Mitch
My reason for bringing up Halak was the poster I quoted using the "Vancouver HAS to trade him" thing hurting his trade value. I don't think that, in and of itself, hurts his trade value. It didn't hurt Halak's, even though everyone and their mother knew Montreal had to deal one of them before the season began. It wasn't necessarily a "Luongo is better/more valuable than Halak" type of comparison (though I will say, as much as Luongo gets crapped on, he DOES have a better overall career resume than Halak), but more an example of how just because teams know Player X has to be dealt, it doesn't necessarily mean their trade value goes in the toilet.

As for Luongo's playoff struggles, the thing is he generally performs in the regular season. For a team like the Leafs, who are desperate to make the playoffs, that's all that matters. Burke's job is on the line if he doesn't make the playoffs; I don't think his job is on the line if he makes it, but loses in round 1. So he might see someone like Luongo as a guarantee to always make the playoffs -- after that, well, bets are off.

I think it's pretty decent. It would be a good way for Van to stock up on young players to add to Jensen, Schroeder, Tanev, and Connaughten

Too bad we effing traded/he asked for a Trade Hodgson.

That trade would haunt this franchise 10 years from now when Nino becomes another Bertuzzi and Ryan Murray wins a Norris Trophy. Haven't Islander fans learned anything?

I've seen lots of Fillipula over the past few seasons and he's pretty skilled but I just don't think he's the kind of player I would deal a pick this high for. I think he's pretty soft

I still don't know if it's worth it. I think the Isles have needs amongst their young core and unless I got wowed by an offer, I would prefer to keep the pick. Not saying Fillipula is a bad player but I just wouldn't do this. The pick is too high and you're guarenteed Galchenyuk, Forsberg, Murray or Grigorenko. All have star written all over them

Fair enough. I don't like the idea of trading Flip for anything other than future star, so jsut for fun what about

Filppula + Franzen

Just for the sake of it I would like to see what a top 5 pick would cost from the Wings roster.

would any of them be available and what would it cost the isles?
You have one in the pipeline. His name is Ryan Strome

Now you have my attention. haha

As much as I hate to give up such a high pick, that's the best offer I've seen for it

Yeah honestly I think that would be something the Wings would consider. Losing those two players hurts, but what it would do is free up a lot of cap space to go really hard after Parise, and then you could have a potential franchise player coming in, and they wouldn't be rushed.

Although once I cool off from this postseason a bit I might not think it's such a great idea lol.

I wouldn't mind seeing you guys pluck Parise off the Devils. Certainly makes them worse

Strome is very creative. I personally think he needs to play centre in the NHL. Let Tavares play with more pure goal scorers like Moulson and hopefully Okposo or Niederreiter fits on the opposite wing long term. Strome could play with Grabner and maybe Cizikas in the near future.

I could see Strome-Tavares-Niederreiter as our top line someday. But who knows what Garth Blow has up his sleeve for this year. We could end up with Forsberg or Galchenyuk which will show you just how much confidence he lacks in Nino long term
