Standard Below CHL

What leagues do CHL Franchises usually take the players from? in regards to Bantam Drafts. Does it generally come down to age & talent? Just attempting to educate myself.

Not sure what the question is, but teams in the Q, the W and the OHL draft players from the area's Junior A teams and have a specific number of imported players they can pick.

The CHL drafts their players from Midget AAA/Major Midget, not Jr. A

Jr. A is a level below the CHL but it's still a Junior league. A large part of the guys that play in Jr. A are players drafted by CHL teams that couldn't crack the roster.

Yup.

OJHL, BCHL, MHL, AJHL, etc. are all Jr. A leagues in Canada.

Here's a link where you can see each of those Jr. A leagues:

And here's a link to all the Major Midget leagues in Canada:

They don't draft from Midget.. its a bantam draft. They draft 14 year olds who played their final year of Bantam. They do invite Midget players to camps though. Usually only the players playing in the highest of tiers in bantam get drafted.

That's just in the WHL tho. OHL and Q draft from Midget.

I believe it's because the area covered is much larger than the other two leagues and they play more games/tournaments at the Bantam level, which allows for more viewings of players.

As for the OP, the OHL and QMJHL draft players at 15/16 from the Midget level.

Q region:
In the Maritimes, most are drawn from Major Midget, which is a U18 level.
Québec players either play Midget AAA (U18) or Espoir (U16), though the majority come from AAA.
Many kids also head to prep schools, either in the US (Shattuck or New England prep) or further west (Notre Dame in Saskatchewan or Ontario Hockey Academy), for various reasons.
Some feel like they need better competition or some are told that they should go the NCAA route instead.
Leagues in this area include: NBPEIMMHL (New Brunswick and PEI), NLMMHL (Newfoundland), NSMMHL (Nova Scotia), QMAAA (Québec)

O region:
In Southern Ontario, most are drawn from Minor Midget, which is U16.
You will see some kids taken from Major Midget, but these leagues are mostly watered down because Ontario has a different development scheme (most jump from Minor Midget to either the OHL or if they aren't ready, Jr. A or B, rather than Major Midget).
Northern Ontario is a bit different, due to politics and the vast area that is NO.
Most kids play Major Midget AAA or AA, but some play for breakaway Minor Midget teams that are rebelling against the NOHA and the lack of a Minor Midget level (Copper Cliff and Soo Thunder are two recent success stories).
Leagues in this area include: GNML (Great North), GTHL (Greater Toronto), MHAO (Alliance), OMHA (split into two regions, ETA [Eastern Triple A] and SCTA [South-Central Triple A]), OEMHL (Ontario East)

As mentioned, the WHL drafts at 14/15 from the Bantam level.
All of them move on to the Midget level before playing in the WHL (except for their limited number of affiliate games).

W region:
In Manitoba, kids are drawn from Winnipeg Bantam AAA Division 1.
Despite having Winnipeg in the name, this league also includes more rural areas.
In Saskatchewan, most play Bantam AA but the Notre Dame team is labeled AAA and plays some games at the Midget AA level in the South Saskatchewan league.
In Alberta, almost all play at the Major Bantam level.
In British Columbia, most are drawn from A1 T1 teams, which are simply Bantam level (no Minor or Major designation).
There are kids from all over the Western region that play in the Okanagan league, mostly for Pursuit of Excellence or Okanagan Hockey Academy (prep teams), or Notre Dame.
Some also head south to Shattuck.
Leagues in this area include: AMBHL (Alberta), GSHL (Greater Saskatoon, merging with SBAA), OMAHA (Okanagan), SBAA (Saskatchewan), SSMAA (Notre Dame), PCAHA (Pacific Coast), WBAAA (Winnipeg), VIAHA (Vancouver Island).
