And this.

I love all the blind hate Starbucks gets from people that don't even know what they sell.
I find it useful to compare coffee with beer.

-A really good local coffee place, like say Stone's Throw Coffee in Regina SK or Greyhouse Coffee in West Lafayette IN, is the equivalent of a really good craft beer such as something good from Bell's Brewery or Stone Brewery or somewhere along those lines.

-Decent chain coffee such as Starbucks or Peets is equivalent to boring but drinkable microbrewed beer like New Belgium Fat Tire or Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

-Bad chain coffee like Dunkin' Donuts, Pilot Travel Centers, and so on is like standard macrobrewed beer such as Budweiser or Molson; it's bad but it's not undrinkable.

-The awful, vile brown murk that Tim Horton's serves up is the coffee equivalent of some disgusting beer-like product such as Natural Light or Milwaukee's Best Ice.

Since we don't have either one out here, I'm going with Krispy Kreme on this one too.

I disagree on the regular coffee, normally Starbucks overcooks or burns their daily roast. It is better than DD when its made right, but more than half the time its awful and burnt.

That's the biggest issue with it (they didn't get the nickname Charbucks for nothing) but their new blonde roasts are a huge improvement in that regard (and at least here they are brewing them every day). The other thing is they use really good water, brew their coffee at the right temperature, and basically do everything right to make a good cup of coffee except roast the beans correctly.

Tim Hortons has somewhat better donuts, and I find the variety/selection better.
Couldn't agree more. Dunkin coffee is consistent while Tim's is very hit or miss to me when I've had it.

Tim does have a better variety of foods on their menu though, so I went with them.

Not a fan of the blonde roasts at all, just too weak. Also not a fan of the burnt stuff either, but if it was between the two, would defintely go with the burnt.

I'm not much of a coffee drinker but Tim Horton's is sludge. All I can say is that Dunkin' Donuts in Japan is amazing. I don't have a huge sweet tooth but the donuts over there were absolutely insane. Also DD breakfast sandwiches destroy Tim's.

Basically this.

I don't know how Dunkin Donuts are like in the US, but in Quebec, they're horrible. On top of that, it seems as if they have a policy to allow bums to hang out inside. Everytime I entered a Dunkin Donuts at night, it was packed with homeless people and really shady looking people.. And this is not isolated to one Dunkin Donuts.

Dunkin Donuts doughnuts suck, for real. They're either just 1 lb. of sugar or they have no taste. Not only would I pick a Tim Hortons doughnut over a Dunkin Donuts doughnut, if there was only Dunkin Donuts on the table I wouldn't even eat it.

Tims, even though their product has gone downhill a bit since moving to cooking pre-made frozen donuts. DD are hard, dry, cakey and not appetizing what so ever.

I don't drink coffee, and their donuts are awful. Many years ago their donuts were good, but then they switched to pre-made frozen garbage.

People who buy donuts from these places should be ashamed for not going to a quality local joint.

Well, I'm of the opinion that there's no such thing as bad donuts, and there's no such thing as good coffee, so whatever. I actually never go to either place.

I'm not surprised. Most Okies have no need to know that information. Any ideal if the Canadian Component had a game with the American Component? If so what was the score? I usually go but I've been deployed for a while and missed it if it happened.

Tim Hortons is better, but I've always found it fascinating to see how Timmies is popular in Canada. After all, it's just your average coffee shop minus any kind of personality.

It's growing but it's been a slow process. IIRC it's mostly in the Great Lakes area right now (Buffalo, Michigan, etc.) and hasn't quite spread to the rest of the US. I've contacted them about opening one here in Raleigh but they're not quite ready to move this far south yet.
