Bowman has to do something, what will it be

We've seen that the team we have is not good enough to make it past the 2nd round
We've seen that the team can't even get home ice during the RS
We've seen that our PP and PK is more than bad
We've seen that you can't be cheap on the goaltending postion any more

all of this is not acceptable. We have Keith, Seabrook, Toews, Kane, Hossa, Sharp and Bolland. Most of them underachieved and they did this for a reason

Bowman has some work to do

Bickell & Frolik were our best players these past 2 games. In a perfect world, they play on the 4th line. In a perfect world, Stalberg is Versteeg again, Krüger isn't in the Top6 abd the money is spend better.

Our depth isn't good enough for the system we play. Our goaltending sucks and Bowman made a big big mistake with the new contract he gave to Emery. This takes away the chances to bring in a guy that could take over as #1 guy. I don't think he will trade Crawford, but he should. Trade Crawford and go after a #1 goalie that may be available.

Bowman has a lot work to do and if he signs a vet, he should go after the guys that still have something left and are a fit for the system

He trades Crawford for a 2C and then sets out to acquire a Bernier. Then he brings in a more defensive-minded assistant (after Q fires Kitchen) and Hutton beats out Emery in training camp. In a perfect world.

Flame away.

My guess is he does nothing and we have essentially the same team next year.

He can start by not signing another baby blanket player for Q.

No Brunettes, no Boyntons, no SODs, no Bolligs, Scotts, or any other player who's mostly useless save for some semblance of "toughness" and perhaps a small amount of experience.

Q routinely plays guys like this over more qualified players; forcing everyone else on the team to eat extra minutes, or worse, causing serious errors that cost us the game.

No more "PMD"'s like montador, oduya, lepisto. And no dinosaurs like Odonnel.

This. Nobody said we needed anything at the TD. What's changed? All I heard back then was fiscal this, asset that.

We need a 2nd line scoring, but defensive center.

We need a goalie. Go after Schnieder if Canucks keep Luongo.

We need big guys that play physical. We play with basically no physicality, lose board battles constantly, and can't clear the crease on the PK and have nobody in front on the PP anymore. We need a D not names keith and seabrook that is not going to be intimidated by the forecheck as well.

Stop the Crawford blaming. We are losing to an inferior team because our offensive powerhouse of a team CAN'T SCORE!

We are 1 for 13 on the powerplay. Give us a respectable 20% on the PP, that's 3 more goals, and we'd be celebrating a sweep right now.

Kitchen is the most obvious candidate to be fired right now. He is followed closely by Stan Bowman for assembling the softest, most gutless Hawks squad since 2002-2003 and even that's debateable. This might be the weakest squad I've seen take the ice in 20 years. ****, scratch that thought, it is.

Unfortunately our whole team is built around the puck possession game. Playing in the offensive zone for most of the game to be successful. It won't work to have the core we have and try to become a power forward defensive team. Look at the cup year. Most of our defense was PMD's. To think Toews, Kane, Sharp, Kruger, Stalberg etc. can be effective in a defensive system team is just not reality.

I think better coaching and goaltending would be a much better path.

They have to fix the backline whether thats through defense or goalie. I'm tired of every year having to make a move at the deadline for a defenseman because we aren't good enough. No more patchwork defenses made of deadline acquisitions and rookies. Ideally you'd add a big, physical defenseman that can PK and a puck moving defeseman that can work on the power play. 3rd pairing can be Hammer and Leddy.

Bring a physical top 9 guy (ideally two.. one in top 6 please) with decent speed to open the ice and help the skilled guys (in alot of ways... damn you Beach), stop signing old vets who don't fit the puck possession style this team emulates (Mayers the obvious exception), add a right handed, physical defensemen who helps a guy like Leddy (and fits said style of moving the puck up the ice) and fire one of the worst assistants in the NHL.

That'll be a hell of a start. Sprinkle some kids who look promising (Shaw, Saad or/and Hayes.. possibly Olsen for the bottom pairing with a not too old PMD who fits the PP, please improve your acceleration kid) and trade the dead weight (lets continue to get that value back up Frolik) and could be another fun year in Madison. (a semi-athletic goalie wouldn't hurt either)

First and foremost, Q needs to go and he can take Kitchen with him. While the roster is redundant (I’ll get to this a little later), this team lacks structure and leadership. They have not made one freaking adjustment to their game to counter the PHX system. This is inexcusable. They cannot win playing pond hockey. If they want to play like the Red Wings, make it the Red Wings of the 90’s with their Left Wing Lock forecheck.

Because of his closeness with the Bowman’s and the assumed desire to play 90’s style Red Wings hockey (or any structured hockey which adapts to their opponent and exposes their weaknesses), I could easily see Barry Smith getting the head coaching job. They snuck Q into the organization when Savard was the head coach. They have done the same thing with Barry Smith. If/when they get eliminated, wouldn't be surprised if Q is out within a month and Smith is in.

Smith has some experience as a head coach in the KHL and the Swiss League, but for the most part he spent his career as Scotty’s top lieutenant. I would like Smith as a coach because he comes from the Scotty Bowman coaching tree. In some ways, he is the hockey version of Tom Thibodeau…a well respected career assistant in the top league in the world.

As for the roster, they need to get more size and grit in support roles. I wouldn’t blow the roster up, but I would definitely shop Sharp and Kane to see what type of return they could get. If there is a great return (like a top notch power forward, a solid top 4 defenseman, and a few solid prospects from trading these two), I’d move them in a heart beat.

O’Donnell, Mayers, Brunette, and Morrison will be gone. Frolik, Stalberg, and Oduya need to go. I’d even throw Kruger in as a guy that needs to go. They need to make this roster balanced, hence skill and finesse of the core + Saad, and everybody else is a gritty, two way player. Then let the system (yes, an actual system!!!) provide role players with scoring opportunities.

Make a move for a second line center. A good one.

To me its the backline that is the problem, not scoring. Hawks were one of the top teams in goals for this year. We can't keep playing Keith for 27 minutes a night every year. We need 3 legit defensive pairings not 1 and a half.

Sign another year's worth of old roster filler while hoping that the young guns develop immediately.

The UFA are slim pickings this year:
http://www.sportscity.com/nhl/2012-n...d-by-position/

If Stan wants to make this team a contender again he has to make some trades for Ott or Clowe type guys.

Teams needs a 2nd line center, a physical d-man and a backup goalie capable of starting and playing well.
