There's always the obligatory "but he's one of us lololololo" insinuating that it's the fans who say this.... when clearly it's just FSN.

The people want winners. I don't care if the team has 0 Minnesotans, I just want to win.

Likewise, I don't care where our announcers are from, I just want good ones. The fact that the VP for brand marketing can be SOOOOO terribly wrong and so disconnected from the fans is even more irritating than Lapunta.

On a related note, the guy who does the @LAKings Twitter feed used to work for the Wild (he did Clutterbuck's moustache). Yet another swing and miss from the team in terms of missing the boat.

I think I'm gonna start developing a nervous tic if I keep hearing stuff like this.

So pissed off at this team right now.

They better back up their "big splash" crap with action once the playoffs are over, the draft hits, and then free agency opens.

I could care less if someone is from Minnesota, North Dakota, Canada, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Europe, Zambia, Brazil, Tanzania, Tasmania, or friggin Alpha Centauri for all I care as long as they are in the top tier at whatever it is they do and they want to be here.
Greenlay is from Brazil.

what "big splash" stuff? Or is it just the promise to try and overpay for FA's?

They're getting their name out in all the rumor mills for Suter and Parise. That's the big splash. Not actually signing them, but just making a conspicuous attempt.

Random question. Say you could for sure get one or the other... Parise or Suter.. which would you take?

I assume both deals would be comparable and somewhat long term.

There's a pretty good article about those LA Kings Twitter guys.

On a semi-related note, is anyone else getting a little sick of the team's obsession with being "family friendly" and "classy"? I believe those were both terms that showed up on the brand identity survey. I want our team to be more like the Kings. Funny, clever, bold, and competitive. This is the NHL, not daycare. We're not all supposed to be friends here.

That's why I keep saying minivan. I've been saying it for six years. Don't see it changing anytime soon.

Yes, very sick of it. I know getting families to come to games sells more tickets, merchandise, food, etc., but it does get very old sometimes. If only they put half the energy into finding exciting players as they do making sure the X is a "Family Friendly" evnviorment...

Letting him go after only one season would essentially be acknowledging they made a mistake hiring him in the first place. FSN and the Wild aren't going to do that. No matter how bad he is I'm guessing he's in the position 2-3 years.

Like I said, I'm not holding my breath. If FSN and the Wild organization are as proud as they seem after the last couple days, I can see them keeping him in the play-by-play position even if he stinks out loud. We might have to wait awhile for a "new direction".

Being one of the younger teams in the league, maybe management still thinks they are in a "relationship building" stage with their fans. The honeymoon phase is over; they've felt the sting of lost revenues, and are directing efforts towards families with younger children in an effort to ensure long-term profitability.

That's just my guess.

Wouldn't read into it that much.

Likely ratings have gone up year over year so they just keep going with whatever works, and Lapanta is a cheap and safe choice.

I think he was responding more to my "family friendly" comment above than to LaPanta.

And what a great way to entice families by increasing prices over the years to the point where it'd cost a family of 4 nearly $300 to attend ONE game. That includes upper level seats, concessions, parking, and so forth. Crazy.

The honeymoon phase is indeed over. In fact, the fans and the Wild are reaching the point of couples' therapy. The communication is gone. Some people are starting to have affairs with the good looking neighbor team down the street.
