You can invite a player to TC without a contract offer, even an ATO or PTO.

well if he gets a ATO or PTO, it wouldnt shock me if the Rangers did try to sign him..

some familiar names in the second fight....i hope NYR tries to get him..with the loss of Erixon, depth on defense can help...low risk high reward...he has had injuries like Sauer has and Sauer when healthy has turned into a solid dman...

No thanks on little Beuk. He doesn't play defense all that well.

The whole idea is to find prospects and develop them. It takes longer sometimes, especially when a player has been hurt during their first couple of years after signing a professional contract. And hey, we had a player on the NHL roster for most of the season who the exact same words could have been said the week before training camps started last year.

Sure it's rolling the dice, but that's what the AHL is all about.

Any chance Thomas will be returned to the Oshawa Generals to play his OA year if there is a lockout?

I don't know enough about him to know if he's worth investing time into. I'd be curious to hear what some posters who've seen him often would say. If he's got a shot, then I'd love to see him on the Ranger blue line at some point. I'd say give him a chance.

However, it's foolish to sign him just for his last name if their is a better alternative...

I have no idea how deep Connecticut is at forward. Being an undersized forward I figured if he didn't fit in the top 9 he'd be better off in Oshawa than the ECHL.

Thomas has nothing left to learn in the Juniors, time to go Pro and see how ready he is.

Hartford can use all the help it can get up front.

Right now the forwards are; Haley (he might be the 13 forward for the Rangers), Jean, Yogan, Borque, Thomas, Hrivik, Grant, Newburry, Segal, Kolarik, and maybe Miller.

Jason Wilson might be in the ECHL. Bouchard is a free agent. I don't think Jordan Owens is back. Miller could be anywhere from OHL to NHL, Hrivik might make the big team if he can continue what he did the end of last year, so yeah...Thomas will have room.

Also, Lindberg and Fast won't be over for a while if at all this season. Not sure what is up with Fast. He had a knee on knee collision with someone and left a game as a precaution about a week ago. Haven't heard an update so I hope everything is ok.

Hey guys sorry if this doesn't belong here but I was just wondering how I would be able to watch some whale games in the event of an nhl lockout. I don't think it's televised where I am so I am assuming online somewhere? How do you guys watch the games?

at 4 bucks a game, imho, a frikkin rip off.

just my opinion anyway. NHL Center Ice costs me like what...200 bucks a year? for every single nhl game...a LIITTTLLLEEE bit different than 4 bucks a game.

Add Danny Hobbs to the list of forwards. He officially signed an AHL contract last month.

Kelsey Tessier might be back. Scott Tanski as well. I think Jeff Prough and Max Campbell are still under AHL deals, so they could see time (though are likely ECHL guys).

Owens signed in Denmark with SønderjyskE.

I can't imagine they'd go after the first two. They obviously weren't high on Wellman to move him out after half a season, and they let Deveaux walk and basically replaced him with Brandon Segal.

Grumet-Morris would be nice for HFD, but I presume they're saving a spot for one of Missiaen or Stajcer.

I was joking but it was a bit ironic seeing these 3 guys all being waived after being part of the NYR organisation last year. Heck, if we claimed Wellman we would have gotten the 5th rounder ("kharmal" compensation for the Scott mishap?) from FLA for free basically. I agree - not happening

I thought Wellman was great in his time in Hartford. Still bummed they shipped him out instead of just letting him help out the Whale.

Strong SEL season opener by Oscar Lindberg. 1 goal, 2 assists and +4 tonight.
Last season he had 5+5 and -8 in 46 games, so he really got a kick start to this season.

Anyone have an idea how much of a chance Hrivik and Thomas have to get a bottom-6 role on the big club?

Slim to none. They're not going to stick two gifted offensive players on the bottom two lines in the NHL when they should be getting top minutes in the AHL.

Particularly Thomas, who needs to show he can handle the physical rigors of the professional game (in any role).

I think he'll be assigned to the CHL. I have doubts he'll be in Greenville he rarely got to play here beside 10th forward minutes.

Also Prough and Campbell I'm fairly sure aren't CT property anymore.
