These players to Detroit

After the disappointing playoff run/end of season a big shake up is needed in Detroit. It would seem that they've hit the wall again, almost like the years before & just after the lockout. So something big has to give them a jolt of life. With lidstrom retiring (I think it's almost a given), what would it take to get these defencemen to Detroit:

Enstrom
Ryan Whitney
Smid
Douglas Murray
Kevin Klein
Orpik
Bouwmeester
Meszaros
or Green

All of these defencemen are either UFAs in 2013, or 2014 (Except for green who is an RFA this year)

The only Untouchables are Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Smith & Howard.

Also if Nash was traded to Detroit what do you guys think it would take? Franzen+Jurco+Kindl/Quincey++?

IIRC Cbus is looking for an insane amount to trade Nash away....not sure that detroit could pull it off until next year, as I'm pretty sure they were looking for a 1st+++

I know that they were looking for an obscene amount of stuff for Nash from the NYR. I think it was Dubi+ MDZ/McDonagh+ Erixon/Kreider+ 2012 1st I think thats what Cbus wanted for him? But the rangers offered Dubinsky, Tim Erixon, J.T. Miller,Christian Thomas and a 2012 1st.

My reasoning would be that

Franzen/Filpula > Dubinsky
Kindl/Quincey <= Erixon
Jurco> Jt Miller
Spourl = Thomas
2013 first

So Franzen/Filpula+ Kindl/Quincey+Jurco+ Spourl+ 2013 1st for Nash

While not the best offer it's not the worst in the world either, I think the wings do have the pieces to get Nash wihtout destroying their core (Dats, Zet, Kronwall, Howard). And it would also depend on if we get a defeneman to replace Lidstrom because if he retires that should be our #1 priority.

Doug Murray would be available, not sure if we'd want to trade him inside the conference tho..

Doug Murray will probably be available for a pick or forward prospect.

If we miss the Suter boat, or he makes it clear he isn't going to sign how does Filppula + Sproul for Green sound. I'm assuming you guys wouldn't take Franzen instead? And for Murray I know he had a down/Disappointing year so would you guys want picks/prospects for him? Maybe a draft day deal of Murray for Stuarts FA rights + Pulkinnen + 3rd round pick? Or a 2nd+Stuarts rights for Murray?

The Oil are pretty thin on D, but depending on how we're doing at the midway point Whitney may be available as a rental. Smid loves Edmonton and we can't afford to let him go, even if it was overpayment coming back.

Doug Murray really seems like the best bet out of the players the OP named. He and Kronwall would be murder on the back end.

Sucks that Smid won't be moved, I really like his game. Whitney I don't see getting the return you think he will, defiantly not Smith. Smith is the best defensive prospect we've had since Fischer/Kronwall. I can't see him being moved for a rental, especially a rental that while he has shown flashes of brilliance has been hurt a lot of his career and has played just 1 full season in the past 4. While I know he means quite a bit to your origination I think Smith will prove to be on the same level of Whitney in the next year or 2.

Well that's an easy no. I'm not sure I would move Jarnkrok for anybody. And I don't think you guys needed anymore D. But if that's the price for Orpik then I hope the wings just stay away. He's not worth 2 of the wings top 5 prospects.

I don't think any reasonable Oiler fan would expect Smith in return, but as a rental I'd certainly expect something similar to the Kaberle deal to Boston. Injuries aside, his career numbers (pro-rated to an 82 game season) average out to 46pts for a guy who plays average in the physical department and has one of the better stretch passes in the game. If he's healthy and playing well at the deadline he definitely nabs a 1st and B prospect.

i think its a given that the caps are not going to trade green. any conversation otherwise is just wishful thinking among the anti green group of caps fans.

same group would suggestion you sign semin so that he does not resign with mcphee

I agree with that. I'd have no problem giving up a 1st + B prospect for him, as long as he's healthy. And that is the biggest reason why I would hesitate in going for him, he hasn't played a full season in 2 years, and I'm not sure of his injuries, but his ankle & knee problems appear to be chronic?

Is there any reason he's not on your list?

He's injury prone & getting up there in age he's 33 and he's more of an offensive dman. The only oldish guys I included were defensive dmen. I think detroit should go after young(ish) dmen to replace Lidstrom, unfortunately Markov doesn't fit the bill.
