Quote:
The axe has fallen on Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres.

Torres was suspended 25 games for launching himself to deliver a late hit that sent Chicago's Marian Hossa during Game 3 of the Coyotes-Blackhawks series on Tuesday night.

Desjardins estimates that about 40% of the game is captured by Corsi analysis.

I know he is a repeat offender, but this is a bit ridiculous. How does Weber only get a fine yet Torres gets 25 Games?

Just goes to show that the star players get treated differently.

He has made a career headhunting.

Good to see this punishment handed out.

While I agree that star players can get treated differently, this isn't a good example of that.
Torres has already been suspended four times in his career. This is number five. I think the fact that he's such a repeat offender factored more into this judgement than anything else.

Because what Torres did was much much worse that what Weber did.

Yep. This is right in line with what Cooke got last year. I'm fine with the length of this. Shanny did a good job.

I agree. The Torres hit was only slightly worse than Weber's head slam.

Weber should have been suspended for at least a couple of games, by not suspending him the league set a bad precedent. Now with all the violence spilling over they're being forced to overcompensate in order to discourage this sort of thing.

I think this is a bit too much but I imagine the injury was a huge reason and Torres is a dirty player, always has been. Hopefully everybody in the league looks at this and thinks twice before head hunting.

That's ridiculous. There wasn't even any elbow on the hit. Yes it was late, yes he went up on an angle, but 25 games is just nuts!

Shanahan is a joke. I know Torres is a repeat offender but comparing this to other discipline handed out is laughable. If I were Torres agent I would recommend he seek lawyer as the NHL should not just pick and chose who they decide to make an example of.

What would Scott Stevens get for his Lindros, Kariya and Francis hits?

Seems like Shanahan let things get out of control and is trying to reel it back in by making an example out of the Torres hit. Couldn't really care either way about how many games he got, but it seems way too much considering how other hits have been handled so far this post-season.

No this is a case of a player who is continually disciplined for hits to the head

Wouldn't be surprised if his next one is 82 games

Shanahan is a good reason why people with criminal records aren't allowed to become judges.
