Yep. If DW is smart, he'll cover the fee with some kind of administrative expenditure like "executive training upgrade seminar" or some such.

i agree. it was frustrating to see pavs not break through this series, but he's been just fine in the past.

he's also a versatile enough hockey player that can fit into any system. not the guy you want to trade away unless the return is a steal

The Sharks with some minor tweaks should be right back to being a top contender in the Western Conference.
thornton doesnt vanish. somehow the guy with the biggest gut has no guts and doesnt do anything.

you guys deserved to win, you had steller goaltending and yous have a gem in pietrangelo. he's guarnteed to be a norris contender for many many years.

Dallas, Anaheim, Chicago, Vancouver all hurt.... Stayed up all night on the east coast for the Dallas heartbreaker. The Ducks ended JR's career (one of my fav non sharks ever and hockey personalities always wanted him to win the cup then he had a chance with us...), Chicago just pissed me off Byfuglien and chelsea dagger serious rage, Vancouver's stanchion is ME3's ending...

This is just garbage and sucks. Team sucks, Coaches suck. I only feel bad for Thornton who is obviously livid

No one here is saying that...seems everyone agrees that he did all he could and no one else showed up. And lol at "minor tweaks"...how long has that been going on for this team? BIG changes should be coming.

Congrats on getting through. Not the most exciting style of play, but it's obviously effective.

He's the fastest skater on the team and one of our biggest weaknesses is foot speed. It might do more harm than good to trade Marleau. There are other, less controversial changes to be made.

Easy one. Make a list of players who undoubtedly gave ALL of their effort. Keep them. Ship out the rest.

Effort players
*Burns
*Jumbo
*Braun
*Desjardins
*Winnik
*Wingels
*Boyle
*Mitchell
*Pavs

DW could just threaten to sue McLellan for Rubik's Cube copyright infringement and that would be the last we'd see of TMac in SJ.

The problem is the Sharks top-6 is too slow, I think everyone know that. They'll trade Clowe (thats a given i think) but that still leaves Thornton (who isn't slow but plays a slow game) Paveksi, and Couture. They really MUST trade 2 of those guys so at least 4 of their top-6 players are fast. I think you keep JT and Couture, as much as I love Pavs.

#1 player that needs to go is Murray. He's a fan favorite, but his lack of speed is exposed way too often.

Clowe would be my second choice. Though I expect him to rebound after having such a horrible season, his lack of speed and defensive ability makes him a liability.

I would love to trade Marleau, but he's locked in with the NMC and will never waive. I thought he had a strong game today when you look at the details in his game, but that's not what he's paid to do. You could sign a 3rd liner to do the exact same things for 5-6 million less.

Also start looking into shopping Boyle with his limited NTC while we can still get value for him. He's not the problem with this team (though his selfishness does sometimes hurt, especially on the PP), but the team can get better, younger, and get 6.66 million off the books if he is traded.

I'd love to be able to spend 6.9M on some other pieces.

Sabres and Blues fan here, but moving to Seattle next season. Can't wait to root for you guys as the closest (likable) team.

The one and only one, other than burns and boyle, that I feel sorry for on this team.

Well played Blues, and congratz with going to next round...Sharks...not very well played at all
1st match, ok enough, barely got that win...after that...always a step behind our opponent. Finally our PK works well... but our PP ain't what it should be, haven't been the entire series, thanks to a couple of players...too bad you didn't get the help that is needed Thornton, so many passes that should have been put behind the goalie by Pavs...last two months have been hard to watch at most times. Marleau was almost invisible in this last game. Enough said. Looking forward to next season.

That's crazy talk. Pavs is a world class player. 5 games doesnt change that. (And we don't even know if he was playing hurt)
