When players like Tuomo Ruutu get 4.5 mil per .. Penner is going to at least get 4.

Couldn't agree more. Running Thornton, Marleau/Couture, and Pavelski down the middle is a must for next year.

I tend to agree. I think the converted center line setups should probably come to an end. Centers have different skill sets than wingers, and they're not perfectly interchangeable.

Besides, being able to run Thornton-Couture-Pavelski-Desjardins down the middle is absurd. Unfortunately, the team's short two quality wingers to make that a dangerous setup... particularly on Thornton's right side.

The only readily available right-handed winger that might compliment Thornton would be Alex Semin but people have their issues with him and they do make a decent point. I wouldn't mind bringing the man in but I understand the concerns.

I wouldn't mind bringing Semin in but his playoffs so far is driving up his value.

As I've mentioned, I Sasha and I'd go to $5M for him.

Niemi was the least of our problems. Also surprised to see nobody wanting to keep Winchester. I thought he was great in the games he played this year

Niemi may be the least of the problems but I just don't see any real reason to keep him. I wouldn't mind keeping Winchester for another year but his worth to the team was shown when they sat him to finish the year. What's the point of keeping a guy you dropped out of the lineup?

Whatever DW's plan is this off-season, I just want him to go into it with the thought that his lineup should be complete from game 1 of the season and not with twenty to go.

Semin's skill set is definitely one the Sharks could use.

I'm more interested in who will help score goals to win games rather than one stupid incident three years ago.

I only see a few spots for Niemi to land if you're were to trade him tho. You could swap him for Kipper or trade him to the Devils if Marty retires.. I could also see the leafs and lighting showing interest.

I'm not a Niemi fan but I think he's staying at least one more year. He's making avg. starter money now and most goalies that are making more then him are better and the ones that aren't are either old or young waiting for the big contract.

I don't care. I like his talent, and I like his speed.

The only problem is that slewfoot by Boyle at the Olympics.

I'd rather get a future asset for him and see what our many young goalies can do. He's not special enough to hang on to. Yeah, he's not overpaid but if a team like Chicago expressed interest in him for a 2nd round pick, I think you have to do it.

There really was something strange about this year. I thought Doug Wilson would have used the 2+ million we had in cap space at the beginning of the year. Especially to address the obvious holes in the bottom 6.

okay 1. That's ****ing hilarious 2. I thought the name of the game was to score more then the opponent... Semin can do that, he's not gonna fight or lead the team but he'll score goals.

Exactly, Sasha just has a rep. It's idiotic not to want someone so talented on your team.

And you won't be once you find that he is inconsistent, lazy, and just about the Russian version of Pat Falloon.

Inconsistent, yes. Lazy, no. He's dynamic and talented as all get out and he gets it done in the post-season.

Again, buying the Russian stereotype is dumb.
