Hartnell: Time for 'our D, goalie' to win a game

Harts throws down the gauntlet and rightfully so.....we need an effort (a single one!) like what Anderson and Lundqvist have provided..heck we need an effort from our goaltending and D ..but more the former...like all the teams in the playoffs have enjoyed including Mike Smith and the Yotes!

Quote:
VOORHEES, N.J. – Until Game 5, the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals between the Penguins and Flyers had been a high-scoring affair for both teams. Scott Hartnell was asked about that after practice on Saturday.

Hartnell said he hopes Game 6 doesn’t resemble a “track meet” because he likes “these low-scoring games that are tight and every play means a lot.” He gave credit to Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury and the Pittsburgh defense for stopping the Flyers in the third period on Friday night at the Consol Energy Center. Then Hartnell added that the Flyers could use the same sort of effort from their goaltender and defense.

“It’s time for our defense and our goalie to win us a game," Hartnell said. "It’s nothing that we need a goalie to make those stops on. Bryz is not playing bad, but we’d love to win 1-0 and get a shutout and move on and get some rest and get some guys healthy.

I would be perfectly happy if March Bryz showed up. No soft goals, and score early and often. Get them to a point where they dont even want to compete anymore. Finish them.

Well the D should include the Briere line forwards. Staal line has absolutely dominated them.

Based on Hartnell's "effort" in game 4 he probably should look in a mirror before uttering that half of the team needs to step up as well.

That said, he's completely right...Bryz needs a big game and the D needs to be better...

This.

But to be fair, they all didn't put in the effort in Game 4.

Simmonds & Briere's 'D' Friday were embarrassments.

If Hartnell is saying it's time for someone else to win games, he needs to help win it too. He only has the goal in Game 5, and hasn't won as many battles.

The teams needs to be allowed to play. What the hell were we doing playing the trap in the last 2 games. We got lit up and looked stupid doing it.

Go out there, play your game and get the win. If we don't you can guarantee that the penguins will take the series

I hope Hartnell understands Bryz' psychological makeup enough to make such comments because the fanbase and media surely doesn't.

its a team sport he shouldnt be saying that, what he should be saying is we have to play like team and win this hockey game, it sounds like this team will play soft and just rely on d and goalie to win them games which is how is the d and goalie going to score goals for you anyway?

Hartnell can't really talk. This should have been kept in the locker room.

This game Hartnell will get back to playing hard in front of Fluery and crashing the net. They were too fancy this whole series against the Pens and need to get back to the tough hockey and get into Fluery's head again.

Good team defense is a must. Bryz is a great goalie when he has confidence, but he is also a goalie that loses his confidence very fast when the defense can't keep the players from getting great chances on him non stop.

agreed, none of this public sheet helps anything. tell Danny to lift the puck 12 inches while you're @ it, Hartsie.
and be sure to get that on your Blackberry Playbook, too.

Crazy how hockey works. If Giroux hits the net and not the pipe in the last game, we probably go on to win by 6 or 7. We hit the post and lose the game.

You do know it hit the outer pipe and wasn't really that close.

Does that change my point whatsoever? Fluery left a gaping hole regardless

Danny had 3 feet above MAF's left pad. 2 shots in a row. not a thing MAF could do if DB lifts either.

No doubt. Fully agree. If DB had 2 more feet to lift the puck that woulda been a goal. He was so close he was kind of trying to flick it and kind of whiffed.

Sorry Scotty. The D begins up front so talk to yourself, Giroux, Jagr and the Briere line before you throw the decimated D under the bus. Also, why make the comments about a mentally fragile goalie?

Comments like this are annoying. Do you think Briere wanted to put it in the pad? It was a lightning quick play and he wasn't able to lift it like he wanted to. It happens all the time.
