The Defense

Game 6:

Coburn 29:27
Carle 27:18
Gustafsson 22:09
Lilja 16:47
Timonen 15:44
Kubina 4:31

Timonen's ice time is interesting. Kind of curious if Lavy was just saving him with a 3 goal lead.

I think he was rested. He definitely isn't 100% healthy. They still turn to him for the special teams though. He was great on the PK today.

Good job by the coaches especially Kevin McCarthy and Craig Berube.

Definitely think Timonen is injured, hopefully these days off will help him recover. But if Coburn, Carle, and Gustafsson can play how they did today rest of the playoffs I have no problem just giving Timonen 15 minutes.

Why is Kubina's TOI so low?

Great game by the defenders. Blocked a ton of shots, and played simple. Gus stepped up big time, Coburn was a beast, Carle played well and Lilja had one of his better game this season.

Cause he sucks... look at his icetime the past two games.

Kubina has been our worst defender this series.

I actually think this team is in much better shape today than if they sweep. Encouraging to see them remember how to play actual NHL hockey, because the game of horse on ice we saw the first 4 isn't gonna cut it going forward.

Assuming everyone is healthy to start series 2 (unlikely but for the sake of duscussion) what should our hierarchy be in terms of who plays?

Something like:

Timonen
Coburn
Grossman
Carle
Mejszaros
Bourdon
Lilja
Gustafsson
Kubina

Or different?

Gotta think if Gustafsson plays like he did this last game, he jumps Lilja and Bourdon.

Yeah I am amazed our battered D did so well containing their stars. Mind you defense is a team effort and u gotta also credit our great forwards coming back and all, but nevertheless. stupendous effort in a very tough spot.

Gustafsson stepped up huge today. Got a big game from some kid no one heard of, unless you follow the team day-to-day.

IMO:

Timonen
Coburn
Grossmann
Carle
...
Meszaros
Lilja*
Gustafsson*
Bourdon*
Kubina

*Between Lilja, Gustafsson, and Bourdon, it's kind of a crapshoot.

Pairings:
Carle - Timonen
Grossmann - Coburn
Lilja/Gus/Bourdon - Meszaros

X:Kubina, 2 of Lilja/Gus/Bourdon

Funnily enough, Giroux seems to disagree with a lot of you guys, as he explicitly singled him out as playing well after being asked about Gus.

When you have less than 5 minutes of ice time with 3 other defesemen hurt, you are not playing well.

I just hope Coburn isn't being burnt out. He's been great all series.
