Its amazing how people forget about his surgery. Danny Briere was quoted in saying he probably wont be feeling like himself/playing to his potential until october. At least that was the case with Briere and they had the same surgery

I am prepared to pull the arrows out of my back on this, but Scott Gomez on a super cheap contract. Thoughts?

I have to think many teams will try the same thing. I mean, if cheap is cheap enough, why not? If there's no pressure who knows what he might become...

Has there been some sort of indication that the Habs are going to buy him out? He has two years left at $7.3M. His buyout would look like this...

2012-13: $3,523,810
2013-14: $4,523,810
2014-15: $1,666,667
2015-16: $1,666,667

I don't see that happening.

There are non-credible rumors today that they've already decided to. But if there's an amnesty buyout this summer it would be a logical thing for them to do.

Are we really considering Scott Gomez and his two goal season? Seriously?

The skills are still there. Get him out of that market, and out from under the weight of that contract? Could be something there.

I'd give him a training camp invite. Everything beyond that he has to earn.

Scott Gomez? Seriously? There are 5 guys on the roster that would be better fits at the 2C than Gomez.

I don't care how much he's paid. That Cap hit is almost $7.5M for two more years. That essentially guarantees we can't sign anyone of consequence.

I'm confused. If he is bought out whoever signs him has his old cap hit applied regardless of what they sign him for? I didn't know buyouts worked that way.

They don't. If he's bought out and signs for league minimum, his cap hit is league minimum.

The Gomez idea was predicated on the rumors that he is going to be bought out this offseason and could be signed to a much, much cheaper deal.

I haven't watched many Habs games, so I can't speak to his current level of play, or if he were to be a good fit under DH (assuming he remains in charge).

That's not happening unless there's an amnesty buyout system in the new CBA. Montreal won't keep an empty $3.5M cap hit on the books for four years.

Actually it would look like this:

Scott Gomez buyout from CapGeek.com

2012-13: $3,523,810
2013-14: $4,523,810
2014-15: $1,666,667
2015-16: $1,666,667

I don't think that looks all that bad compared to $7,357,143 for the next 2 years...

Based on a discount rate of 7%, his contract is worth $9.1 million today while the buyout is valued at $5.6 million.

I'd definitely buy out that deal from a business perspective.

Edit: corrected to use salary rather than cap hit.

Dammit, the Flames went and signed Roman Cervenka right from under our noses.

On a more serious note, now that another top-6 forward is needed in light of the Kuznetsov news, I invite everyone to jump on the Mikael Samuelsson bandwagon.

Because throwing money at aging wingers again is the solution to the 2C problem.

I reacted negatively to the suggestion before, but I guess it wouldn't be too bad. He produced well this year, but he is also going to be 36 in December. I haven't watched him play at all this year. I definitely don't think he should be nearly the first choice.

Thoughts on Kristian Huselius?
