Captains should not be discussing what goes on behind close doors to the media or with anyone else who's not on the team roster.
Sounds like he might of been the one that was being called out
Why not? It sends a stronger message than just talking in a locker room. It's not some Bradley "he doesn't care" offense, it's just a reminder to the rest of the team.
I don't think AO was called out. While discuccing Hunter's departure in today's Sport-Express interview, he literally said "it's not about Hunter, you must play your best under any coach. If all team battles for their coach and you don't, all players will look at you". I don't think Ovechkin would complain about getting treated like that, and I suppose that Laich or, say, Wideman wouldn't trashtalk their leading scorer who was 3rd in hits in the league.
I think it was Knuble.
Ribeiro would be nice, but come on, why trade for a good (not great) 2C when you have free Jokinen?
Jokinen has never impressed me. I somehow doubt he's a good fit for Ovi/Semin.. maybe if Semin is gone, Ovi & Backstrom on the same line, and Caps decide to build a no frills 2nd line, Laich-Jokinen-Brouwer.. although maybe then just clone Beagle instead, lol.
Ribeiro seems like a center for Semin.. but again, Semin could not get going with Backstrom, so what is Ribeiro gonna do? Although, Ribeiro is a different kind of crafty, maybe he and Semin could have chemistry. And I guess if Semin is gone, Ribeiro could perhaps lift up the play of the likes of Brouwer/Laich/Chimera.. hmm, sounds decent. Why is he rumored to be available or something?
Also, FWIW, I like Plekanec. From what I've seen he has the best qualities of 2C -- fast, great defensively, capable of skill plays.
Gandler again going out of his way to not single Hunter out, saying it was the organization that dictated Semin's TOI and usage. Saying this was decided before Dale was hired. I got heat for theorizing George had a big hand in what happened on the ice. I started calling Dale Gale to keep people from overreacting when I said Dale did something. Maybe I was right after all. Padded my ignored stats.
Speaking of stats, TOI discussions were funny though, as logic would say he would also pick up some of Brouwers TOI and generally even out in the end. Maybe Aucoin 23 paid off the stat folks to bump up his TOI and short changed 28 haha. But I don't doubt that other stats are inaccurate. But again, it evens out for everyone.

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $61,702,905; BONUSES: $320,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $2,597,095
Perfectly capable bottom-6 for a Cup contender, IMO. It's not perfect, obviously. Moving Laich to his best position (2LW) and getting a Gaustad, Kelly, or McClement would be an improvement, as would getting a gritty winger like Tootoo, Moen, or Prust. But yeah, it's not really a concern.
Plekanec is great, but why would Montreal give him up? Also, 5M/year don't sound inspiring
Seems more likely they give him up than SJ Pavelski, since they are quasi rebuilding after all and futures are much more appealing to them. Then again SJ might want to give up Pavelski to improve their speed alone, but at the same time that's something I'd be worried about in getting him as well.
That 5 million a year could amount to just a .5 per year increase if the right player(s) are sent the other way.
If they want as much of futures as you suggest in the Trades forum (Colorado 1st + 2 2nds + Laich), then I wouldnt' touch it. You can get a star at the deadline with that package. Although it's hard to see Montreal dealing their only veteran center without overpayment.
I still think that signing free Jokinen would be a better option.
He hits hard. he's not mobile. his puck handling skills are minimul. he reads the play better than erskine and is somewhat better winning puck battles. i think he played with faulk a lot as a veteran stabilizer.
gleason is the only player in that catagory that the caps would want and carolina is keeping him.
allen is a step up from erskine and a step down from orpik.
