i think i have suggested that in fact. trade all the skill off and replace it with grit.

i suppose you could keep ovechkin for ticket sales and hits, but at somepoint ov would want to move on.

Didnt they more or less say the same thing with Detroit and Yzerman/Boman. Not saying we are the Redwings but they were able to pull it off.

If GMGM believes in Hunter more than he believes in the team he constructed, then yes we may see our high priced skill guys replaced by muckers and stay at home defensemen.

no. not really. yzerman gave up his offensive dominance with his knee injuries to play a more middle of the lineup position, but fedorov and shanahan were there scoring at a high level. they were not a trap/dead puck team.

I'm still amazed that people are still suggesting the Caps send established NHL talent with 1 way contracts to the AHL as some sort of realistic possibility. They aren't going to spend $15M for Schultz and Ward to play for Hersehy for the next couple years.

So Ernie just got extended with the Wizard after 4 of the worst years in Wizards history. GMGm is never getting fired now. Ted is such a meow.

It is the way smart teams get around the cap. If ted wants to eat the money its a real option... Alot of NHL level players are in the minors bc their cap hit.

And ted has done it in the past with Nylander

Define "alot". I'm coming up with maybe 5 or so players with multi-year deals that were sent down and they were all horrendously overpaid and/or the game had completely passed them by. Schultz and Ward might be overpaid by $1M each and can be servicable players in the right role.

Nylander was on the last year of his deal and was overpaid by about $3M or more. I'd argue that the situation with Schultz and Ward isn't even comparable.

OEL's a #1 defensemen already who's cheap to a broke team. He's already far better than Yandle

If OEL played in the east he'd be re guarded as a complete stud

I remember a month or so ago there were quite a few people ready to trade Carlson after a subpar sophmore slump year. Now? Since he's played very well in the series its not brought up as much if at all. Same with Semin...the pitchforks and torches were ready halfway thru the season. Now? Talk of resigning him is more the norm.

Ekman Larsson scores a goal last night. "TRADE GREEN FOR HIM! HURRY!!!"

Some of the best moves a GM makes are the ones he doesn't make.

I just like OEL's upside and have since he was drafted.

Remember the one, about the goalie, who wears as a kinda high number on the back of his jersey for the Capitals of Washington? That guy?

Just a suggestion, but you could save yourself a lot of time and effort with such a post by just going with the following:

Everyone else's toys are unbroken and work perfectly!

The grass isn't greener on the other side.

Remember Peter Bondra?

When he was drafted (after Poile went out to look at Schmelik he noticed Bondra) Poile insisted that he would become a 50 goal scorer.

Much laughter from the annual sporting news issue ensued.

Was developing well and increasing production and then he had a nice 37 goal 80 pt season then had a horrendous 24 goal 40 pt season..out of nowhere he sucked. 5 of those goals came in one game vs the Lightning to boot.

Next years addition of the annual sporting news drew much criticism and laughter at Poile's expense.

Fast forward 3 years and the same publication commended Poile for sticking with his guns and all but admitted to being horrendously wrong.

What I am trying to illustrate is that in many cases you have to ride out a tough year or three when it comes to a player.

Just ask Tampa fans how they feel about the Mike Smith situation.
