Will the Kings draft Nicolas Kerdiles from Irvine?

Kerdiles was dominant in the Under 18s for team USA this past weekend. In the championship game he scored 2 g & 3a as USA beat Sweden 7-0 for the Gold Medal.

Kerdiles grew up and is from Irvine and is projected between 15-25 in the first round of the 2012 draft. At 6 foot 2 and over 200 pounds this kids seems like a great fit for the Kings.

If he falls to #30 in the draft, sure!

If he falls to the 4th round, than sure, why not.

Maybe, but the fact that he's from Irvine will not impact one bit his chances of being drafted by the Kings. Just as much of a chance as any other player.

Well in all honesty, it does not seem like we care too much about local boys. In 2010 we had the opportunity to draft Emerson Etem out of Long Beach but went with Forbert instead. Ducks actually drafted him so I would put more money on Anaheim drafting him then us.

We'd take the local boy if he was Lombardi's best player available on his charts. If he isn't, then no. That and it depends on who Columbus has their eye on this year. In all likeliness, they may just pass till next season, but if they see someone they want or can trade for, we could just as easily be drafting in the 4th round and on, still 6 picks though, and we've done alright with our later picks it seems.

Agreed of course, but I think it's quite likely than DL acquires a draft pick or two in the earlier rounds. For example, I could see a Holloway, Moller or Hickey getting dealt before draft day. Not that I'm in favor of that, but I could see DL doing something along those lines, even if it's just grabbing a couple of thirds.

Our first might be gone depending if Columbus wants our pick this year or next year.

Our second was involved in the Mike Richards deal.

Our thirds were involved in the Dustin Penner deal and the deal that got us an extra third round pick in last year's draft (with which we drafted Nicholas Shore).

Only if Columbus elects to take our 1st rounder this year and not next year (they have the option).

Not to get ahead of ourselves here, but if LA does advance to the finals, the pick will be 29th or 30th overall (depending on if we win or lose in the finals). If that happens, I doubt Columbus would take this years pick.

Did the Kings take Emerson Etem when they had the chance? No.
Did the Panthers take Al Montoya when they had the chance? No.

There's always speculation that a team will make a homer pick and take a hometown guy or a guy that would be viewed as a draw in a specific market but really it almost never happens. There's been quite a few California kids coming through the NTDP in the last few years and I think the only ones that are affiliated with a California team are Etem (_ucks) and a guy who's name escapes me that played college hockey and was invited to development camp by the Kings and that's about it. Remember when the Leafs drafte Luke Schenn and everyone was going nuts about Burke trading for Brayden? Never happened even when Brayden was traded and now there's been rumbling that Luke may be on his way out of Toronto...
