I like the idea of Nash in teal, however no way do I think he is worth Couture. I think the only package DW would consider AND might get the deal done would be would have to involve Pavelski

Nash - Thornton - (insert almost anyone) Ideally U would hope TJ can play here
Couture - Marleau - Havlat

This would push Clowe down to the third line which should create mis-matches and provide a player who can easily move up in the lineup when injuries occur.

Instead of packaging a deal around Pavelski for Nash, I'd rather package a deal around Pavelski for Sharp if available. The Sharks could use an elite winger, and Chicago really needs a #2 C.

Couture - Thornton - Jones
Sharp - Marleau - Havlat

I like it a lot. Sharp is smart, and as versatile as Marleau. But I don't know what we'd need to add, and Chicago wants a 2C without giving up one of their big-4 forwards.

Actually, Chicago is in a helluva pickle. They have crap goaltending, they have no defensive depth, and they have no forward depth. The only reason they're a playoff team at all is that Toews, Hossa, Sharp, and Kane are amazing.

Not to get too offtopic in this thread, but I see it as a logical destination for the following reasons:

-Ottawa is a young, strong team on the rise. Emphasis on young. Nash, even being 28, would be another welcome "veteran" presence.
-They've got the assets to make it happen, plus they're in the opposite conference (and have a track record of dealing with each other).
-Most importantly, they've got the cap space and a need to spend some money to even hit the floor. Assuming the cap floor doesn't rise, and the fact that they currently have 14 players signed for next year already, they have to spend 12 million on 6-7 roster players just to hit the floor, let alone the ceiling. So, Nash's contract would be a welcome addition.
-You just have to think the owner wants another marquee player after the Heatley fiasco. Plus, with Alfie possibly retiring, Melnyk would be happy to commit to another superstar going forward, and a winger for Spezza fits the bill.

Just my thoughts as a closet Sens fan.

Rick Nash averages 39 seconds of PP time per game. If you aren't taking a regular shifts on the PK, then you don't count.

Nope, I was talking about both. I hate the idea of acquiring either Nash or Iggy. We don't need to get older, we don't need to get more expensive, we don't need to get slower, we don't need to give up more young assets, and we don't need to get even more top-heavy.

I would take Nash over Iggy if we had to move for one of them. I actually wouldn't mind Nash too much, but his cap hit is way too high and there is not a chance in hell I'd want to give up Couture or Pavelski to get him.

If we could somehow swap Marleau for Nash I'd be all for it - don't want to move Pavelski especially for arguably a worse player with a terrible contract

I actually think this will happen if we try to tank. It's like a secret rule somewhere that the Oilers must get first overall pick.

You're doing the same thing when you swap Marleau for Nash.

Only way I'd consider it. But otherwise hell no with that price tag and what we'd have to give up. Depth death as everyone else has said.

Seems like just a pipe dream but Joe and Nash could be scary as hell if you put a speedy guy with them.

Which player also has great defensive play, is a top penalty killer, has awesome wheels, and can player both center and wing?

The "crap team" excuse is stupid. Ilya Kovalchuk had his best years on a crap Atlanta team. Marian Hossa also had his best seasons on a crap Atlanta team.

How do you explain that Prospal had nearly as many points as Nash this season, huh? Rick Nash one of the most overrated players in the league because no one actually watches him except in international competitions.

I'm simply pointing out that putting stats side by side and asking which player I want is just as stupid. And I could say the same About Marleau as far as over rated. The single constant in all our failures, he is. Doubt he goes, wish he would.
