CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $68,406,292; BONUSES: $0
CAP SPACE (22-man roster):- $4,106,292

Depending on what happens with the cap it could work. That's with the current cap and my estimated UFA salaries. Btw, if Howson does cave, I think the NYR get Nash anyway.
I believe that roster has -4.1 in capspace left. Which means you'd have to dump a top 6 or Boyle without taking much back. That's horrible for team depth.

If you were leading me there the whole time, I'll be impressed, but regardless, I've won the argument.

as i said that is with the current cap number. it went up 5 mil last year. Plus i don't know who would command what on the open market. if the cap doesn't increase, then Nash isn't coming here

Then let's all pray that the cap doesn't go up.

Remember, there's also a new CBA to deal with. For all we know, the cap could decrease.

To answer my own question, clearly it was Pavelski's fault. Everyone was expecting him to carry the load through the first round.

Stupid expectations.

Even if it does go up 5million do you really want Nash's caphit and increasing salary in real dollars on the books? The Sharks aren't like the Rangers, Blackhawks, Sabres, Leafs, etc who all can have those sorts of contracts while spending to the cap no problem.

I wouldn't doubt it. In fact, even without ever looking at the cup winning teams and their seeding, I would have made an educated guess that that would be the case.

But it's not a guarantee.

Comparing stats on two players, on two different teams with different players, with different coaches and organization philosophies and team systems, and playing entirely different teams on different nights, through different stages of slumps going against other teams in various stages of slump, with different things going on in their personal life, with different elements of chance, and different inspirational books they may have just read that "talked" to them on a spiritual level in different ways, different types and doses of medication to address their differing level of injuries, which may affect their sex drive, which may affect their on ice performance, with different fans believing more or less in them to build their confidence to differing heights.

Too many variables to do a 1-to-1 analysis.

1; Harding = yes, to compete with Greiss. (or just re-sign Nitty to a lower dollar deal. He played well for us).
2; Trade Niemi and Demers to T.O. for Kessel.
3; only returnee's for the 3rd and 4th lines = Winnik, Desjardins and Wingels. Rebuild completely three of the six bottom 6 spots, via Worc. graduates and/or externally.
4A; be aggressive in pursuit of either Carle or Wideman or Suter
Or
4B; Marleau and a prospect to Winnipeg for Byfuglien.

I was listening in to tsn1050 last week and recall some quick talk on the issue and, Dreger and McKenzie were discussing a potential increase of around a couple million. Not any extensive conversation on it, just a quick tidbit as part of other discussion(s).

I know but, he'd be a great addition to the p.p. as he'd be the one we could use as a big aggressive body to go to the net. An asset in which we really struggle with in getting "volunteeers" to do so currently.

Except he doesn't do that or express any desire to do that anymore since he thinks he's a "defenseman".

Tends to happen when you lose every argument against me.

Anyways yeah. Sharks need speed. As mad as I was at Marleau initially I realize the guy still has jets and we need the speed. So yeah probably not a good idea to trade him unless you get some crazy awesome deal which you can't refuse.

Screw the system, Nash would put up better numbers simply by playing on Thornton's line. Nash is exactly the type of player that Sharks have needed for years. A high scoring, hard working winger that can finish. Yeah his contract is on the high side but there isnt many players out there with his skill set that are realistically available for less. If the Sharks are looking for an insta-rebuild, it starts with doing whatever it takes to get Nash here.

I under-appreciate you because I'm so used to you losing, so when you make a good point, I'm so amazed because I forget that you're not a dumbass.
