Winterhawks Acquire Rights to Seth Jones | UPD: Hawks Sign Jones

Thoughts...

Also, does anyone know if he would be able to join Portland right away or if he would have to wait until the 2012-13 season? All pending whether or not he doesn't take the NCAA route...

I believe there is a minimum amount of games you have to play in the regular season to play with the club for playoffs, not 100% sure though.

Is there? I don't believe he is allowed to due to his US national development contract or whatever, but there are 15 year old callups who play in the playoffs after no games in the regular season, right?

Probably 4 years worth of school for 1 year worth of play with them. Plus other $ incentives.

I know it's against league rules, but there is no doubt that it happens.

It's official, Seth Jones is a Portland Winterhawk. He will not join Portland until next season.

I take it Jones had no interest in play with Everett anymore? Portland's D is damn good!

I know next to nothing about the Junior Leagues and Portland in that matter, I've just gotten into them but with Joe Morrow on their team I've taken a liking and if they get a potential #1 pick on their D as well I struggle to see anyone stopping them next year.

It's funny how this happens. Special kids end up playing where they want to play. Happens in the OHL all the time, where kids like Max Domi end up in London.

Great news for Portland, and hopefully good for Jones as well. Portland will probably lose a few of its key players this summer though - Morrow, Bartschi, Ross, Wrenn, Gabriel, Noebels, Rutkowski and Carruth. Maybe they get lucky and a couple of them return as OAs though.

It would be cool to see another Portland, Edmonton final again. That was some good hockey
