No matter what happens, I'm looking forward to the Torts presser tonight.

It's a little depressing that the story of this series has been Tort's pressers...

One other thing: I'm amazed no conspiracy theorists have showed up to claim a conspiracy to get a NJ - LA final.

6 seed and 8 seed in the Cup finals. The Devils didn't even make the postseason last year and the Kings were ousted in the 1st round. Parity is alive and well.

God, who woulda thought?

Between their no-name defense (who is even considered the #1 guy on this team? Volchenkov?), Brodeur being two steps away from a retirement home, and what I perceived to be a lame-duck choice for a head coach (seriously, they hate DeBoer down in Florida), never in a million years would I have had this Devils team in the SCF. I mean, at least with the Kings you can say they're good on paper, massively underachieved all season long, and are finally playing the way everyone thought they were supposed to from the get-go. But the Devils? I simply cannot explain it. Unspectacular team just getting hot at the right time, I guess.

Whatevs. Not my ideal choice for a Detroit-less SCF, but I'll watch it either way. Go Kings.

kings will win this in 5 max. devils looked unimpressive to me against a rangers team that ran out of gas after the second round.

not that i tipped the devils to reach the final, and while i do agree with what you say about the kings being much better on paper than their regular seaosn performance showed, i think you're harsh to the devils. they finished on 102 points (same as detroit, same as 2nd seeded boston) despite playing in a division where 3 other teams got over 100 points, and despite travis zajac playing only 15 games in the whole season. their depth at forward is pretty great (zajac, elias, henrique down the middle with 3 30-goal scorers on the wings as well as 2 big bodies in ponikarovsky and zubrus)

i take your point about their d being weak on paper, but volchenkov is a premier defensive d imo, and zidlicky (despite embarassingly bad puck control in the rangers series) is a useful man to have on the point. and however old he is, brodeur can still go.

One thing you have to give the Devils is their player development. They do a really good job bringing guys along. Lou has completely flailed and failed at cap management and his revolving door of coaches is a bit comical but when he gets it right they're obviously very competitive. Brodeur has looked completely average in recent playoff appearances however he's playing at a high level this year. With that being said I still think the Kings smoke them.

I hate divers. Obviously Brown is one, a terrible one.

Nobody. Their fans hoped, but I doubt anyone predicted those 2 teams. You have to be lucky and good.

What would be the basis of a conspiracy here?

I think Kopitar has a great shot.
I'd put Quick 2nd on LA.
Brown is definitely in the conversation.

For the Devils Brodeur has got to be near the top of the list.
Zajac and Henrique are guys I think have a really good shot
Kovalchuk & Parise will be in the conversation for sure

Quick, Brown and Kovy are the Conn Smyth favorites right now, IMO.

Before the season I could see LA in the Cup Finals and Devils squeeze into the playoffs just like they did. After the regular season however, no chance.

Devils looked too thin on defense for a playoff run with Larsson rookie slumping and Tallinder out with injury. The funny thing is that Brodeur hasn't had to be spectacular either for them to get here, and that's surprising. FLA was their most hardfought series. They just got the right momentum after that.

LA, well they were just underwhelming most of the season. Doughty didn't look like a #1, offense was just not good enough. But their size has caused all sorts of problems for every team they've faced so far. They have the chance to eat Devils defense up.

So, surprising outcome. But when you look at the Devils and LA compared to the so called favorites, you have to be fair and say that their rosters aren't really much worse, if any. Both these clubs are spending up against the cap this season. That's what parity does in the playoffs.

Kovy fan since he came into the league. It's the only reason I'm favoring the Devils winning, otherwise I don't feel much either way about either team.

i think quick is being overrated as far as being the conn smythe winner right now. the guy hasn't had to do anything since the first round of the playoffs.

i'm hoping kopitar gets mvp if the kings win

Really hope the Devils win since now there is no chance Parise leaves NJ.

Enormous Parise fan and a giant Kovy fan too so it was an easy decision.
