Flyers score first again, lose again. I think that brings their overall playoff record this season to 1-6 when scoring first. Unreal.

New Jersey, on the other hand, just might actually do this. Who'd a thought?

I had a feeling that depending on what they drew in terms of matchups that they could have legitimately reached the conference finals. The SCF is another thing though...

That's unreal indeed. Scoring 1st is a huge advantage in the playoffs. The Flyers found a way to lose.
Brysgalov was brutal. Surprise?
I think they defence was very bad as well.

There's just no way to make up for the loss of Pronger. He basically was their blueline for the PP, PK, and shutting down top lines. He did it all.

flyers weaknesses were masked by the worst defense and goaltending that we have witnessed in the last 20 years with the penguins. devils straight up dominated the flyers outside of the last 2 periods in game 1

Devils really need to lose in the ECF. I hate the Rags more, but priorities dictate that no good can come from the Devils reaching the Finals.

It feels really weird to watch the Devils play and NOT feel like they are setting the game of hockey back 20 years by their style of play- their attacking offense and pressure D seems like the opposite of the trapping Devils from the '90's, and good Lord, that forecheck w/ their speed is unreal!

I hope NYR knocks off Washington, and then NJD. I think the Blueshirts have a better shot at knocking Jersey off than Ovie does.

A Washington - Los Angeles SCF would be kinda interesting for a couple of reasons (not what I'm pulling for, but I suppose that's neither here nor there), none more so than the simple storyline of two of the most average, uninspired looking teams in the regular season actually facing off for the Cup. And who says the regular season doesn't matter?

...also, one other interesting thing I'd like to point out; it'd be a #7 seed vs. a #8 seed in a SCF matchup. I believe the lowest seed to ever win a Cup in the current format was the '95 Devils as a #5 seed. Gotta love that parity, eh?

Yeah, that parity is great once it's established that you can finish 7th or 8th and win the Cup.

You guys check out the Black Hawks board and look at Kane's summer thread? What a hilarious guy. Him and Datsyuk need to go out some time.

Deadspin has a little scrapbook/timeline of events.

Glad to see he is busy resting after blowing off the worlds, this guy is going to have a short career, if Buffalo wants him the Hawks should ditch him before he drags them into whatever public downfall certainly awaits him. By the way the same reason USA hockey should be distancing themselves from him instead of embracing him. Go with Parise, Brown and Callahan, Kane has trouble written all over him.

Well, isn't it obvious? He's got more important matters on his plate right now.

True dedication right there.

Ovechkin as a captain is just a bad bad idea. He choked so hard even Joe Thorton would watch in awe of how choketacular it was. Not only he went into self destruct mode, his bad vibe killed his entire team. It's amazing how a team down 1 goal 3 minutes left in game 7 keeps turning over the puck because they are trying to make a blind hot pass through 2 defenders.

and I can't believe we had a few poster who wanted semin. He is probably one the worst playoff performer in recent history. I can't remember a single red wings player who played worse than him past 2-3 years. Even Hudler last year played better than Semin.

I declare anyone who wants Semin on our team is either a spy or should be banned from any serious hockey discussion.

I haven't watched any of the second round at all so i'm not gonna bother trying to defend Ovechkin or Semin's Playoffs

but people really need to stop using Thornton as an example of a choker

he's so far from it nowadays,he even plays good defense now....not even just not bad but actually good

Ovechkin's problem is that he thinks he's beyond coaching.

The NHL would lose nothing if he pulled a Radulov and ran to the KHL.
