The nice thing is that during the regular season, Nashville was one of the very few teams we outshot.

But hey, let's keep the underdog role, seems to be working for us.

Yes

Lets embrace the underdog and embrace the hate.

PHOENIX -- Shane Doan isn't the only one around here who has been waiting 15 years to win a playoff series.

And once it happened, the long-suffering fans of the Phoenix Coyotes weren't about to let the moment pass without saluting their heroes standing in 100-degree heat to enjoy their place in the sun.

About 400 fans ranging from age 2 to 77 were waiting at Sky Harbor Airport on Tuesday when the team returned to the Valley after beating the Chicago Blackhawks 4-0 in Game 6 snapping a string of 13 straight playoff series dating back to 1987 and the long-ago days of the Winnipeg Jets and $1-a-gallon gasoline.

I'm wondering if we can cede home ice to the Preds.......

The Coyotes seem to play better on the Road in the playoffs. Also I'm sick of going to losses

The rankings should just go by points. I don't like how the division winners get the top three slots. Nashville should have a higher seed than Phoenix, imo.

Sure. But the league for whatever reason wants to emphasize divisions so here we are.

I like the current format because in our case, pacific teams have a lot more travel then say other west teams. So long road trips are shared by all division teams...if that makes any reason.

They would have to have a balanced conference schedule to do that. Playing six games versus division opponents makes it so that if you are in a strong division you should get rewarded for winning it. The rules weren't made up at the end of March. In October, everyone knew how the playoffs would be run and how to get the top seeds; win your division regardless of points.

Home ice hasn't exactly been beneficial this year, though.

Hey guys, I have a total bummer. Because we won our first series ever, the 5th round pick Columbus gets for Vermette in 2013 now becomes a 4th.

Question: if I read correctly this year the playoff higher seed gets to pick whether the home ice format goes the traditional 2-2-1-1-1 or (like in baseball) 2-3-2. with us playing better on the road, maybe we want to opt for the latter format where we host games 1,2,6 & 7

Turris and a 4th for Vermette and Rundblad.

It was. We can only point to what Turris was willing to give out on our team, not the high level of play he's willing to give out for Ottawaa. Vermette easily plays at a higher level than Turris did for us, so Rundblad is just icing on the cake.

Vermette has fit into Tippet's system very well. Effort has been very good. Defensively he's adequate and he can literally play on every line and all situations. Toss in the face off skills (top 10 in the league) and this becomes one of the best moves that Maloney has made during his time here in Phoenix.

Rundblad is an elite offensive prospect. He has a ways to go defensively but he projects very well. His potential remains as high as Turris.

Not to make this thread about Turris but he's taken a step forward in his development this year. It helps he's playing with much better players and getting more PP time but he's still woefully inconsistent and invisible for very long stretches. If he doesn't get stronger and bring it on a more consistent basis next year (a contract year) Ottawa fans will start to be more vocal about his development/potential.

Actually it's Turris and a 4th for Vermette, Rundblad, and a 2nd...even better for the Yotes

Deals:
Turris for 2012 Ottawa 2nd rounder + David Rundblad
Vermette for 2012 Ottawa 2nd rounder + 2013 Phoenix 4th rounder

In the end the 2nd rounder is a wash and we picked up Vermette and Rundblad for a 4th and Turris.

No, the 2nd went to the BJs along with the (upgraded 5th) 4th for Vermette

You know, I'm not sure that's really true. I thought we played well in games 1 & 2, got fortunate to win both Chicago games in OT, and played awful in game 6. While we did win more away games, I wouldn't say we played better.

I very much doubt we'd have picked up Brule if it weren't for the Turris mess.

17 Dec - Turris traded
10 Jan - Brule pickup

Seemed more immediate than that but there was Xmas/NY and the transaction freeze.

There were also the O'Sullivan and O'Reilly experiments that had to play out.
