If they could somehow get a really solid young goalie...
Toews+Kane+Sharp+Hossa+Keith+Seabrook+ Solid Goaltending = awesome team. As long as the depth players are decent, that team should always be able to compete against anyone.
I don't know how they get that goalie though. If they had to move a guy from their core... Kane is probably the most expendable with some of the highest value. Sharp/Toews/Hossa are all great two-way guys who can put up 65+ points (Toews/Hossa can obviously put up closer to 75).
Who's closer to a cup winning team Chicago or Buffalo?
Look up and down the roster. It's Chicago hands down.
Chicago is only 2-3 pieces away.
That's not what I meant. Two seperate thoughts. Semin does not crash the net. Hawks need big bodies. Trading Bolland and Kane/Hossa/Sharp for a bigger top-6 and a bigger winger.
Then, seperate thought, maybe sign a UFA winger, like Semin, to replace what you lost in trading Kane/Hossa/Sharp.
Hawks shouldn't think of blowing it up. To build a team I think you need 4 core forwards (Toews, Kane, Sharp, Hossa) 2 dman (Seabrook, Keith) and a goalie (XXXXX). Then fill in the holes. I think a soild goalie would have put this team up for a long run
Kipper for Crawford and 1st is a great deal for Chicago and I think it would get Calgary's attention, I'm not quite sure what the Flames ownerships philosophy is moving forward however so that might be a stumbling block.
Sign Harding - this is the route I see the Hawks pursuing this offseason, but Harding hasn't done anything to prove he is an upgrade on Crawford.
Sign Vokoun - a good option but there will be competition. I could see the Blue Jackets offering a nice long term deal to TV
i think many are overreacting over this. as far as i see it, in order of priority, it goes:
Goalie
#3D
2nd line c
Saad will fill a top 6 role very soon if he keeps up his play, shaw is a good 3rd liner who can fill gaps in case of injury. they have carcillo coming back, with hayes and bollig there are enough guys willing to hit and crash the net coming in.
the guys i'm looking for the hawks to trade are stalberg (dont hate the guy, just need the open spots for the influx of youth), Kruger(same as stalberg. by all means he could stay, but i can see him being involved in a trade) oduya and crawford.
that being said, what would it take for the hawks to get bernier? with quicks play he's gatta be open to being traded from a kings point of view. crawford can work as a backup or 1/b, and quick wont need a ton of games off either. so i'm thinking crawford+ just having a hard time determining what the + is.
New Coaches
#1 Goalie
Top6 player that actually is a Top6 player (not like Stalberg or the others they tried)
Bottom pairing D
Takers for Frolik and Crawford have to be found. Stalberg can be part of a package for sure
Sharp, Toews, Kane, Hossa, Keith, Seabrook and Bolland won't go
Leddy, Saad, Hayes Bros, Krüger and Olsen are seen as untouchable for Bowman (unless it would be a steal for the Hawks - won't happen)
