Other than maybe adding a LW to take one of Paajarvi/Hartilkainen off, is this still reasonable?
We would probably improve slightly just due to the young guys taking that next step. That defence scares me again; both in its ability to defend and create offense from the back end.

What the Oilers will need to do is get some size and grit over the next two seasons to replace: Horcoff, Belanger, Hordichuk (as in we need a guy who can play and be tough), and Gagner.

Maybe those guys can be replaced with Lander, Pitlick and Hartikainen sooner than we think? I'd say they all have the requisite grit, though Pitlick is probably still one more year away and Lander needs to bulk up and improve his skating.

We still need a couple of bigger, grittier vets though. Gaustad is a guy I would go after big-time this off season. Ideal no.4 center with grit, a massive improvement on Belanger who could switch to a 3rd line winger.

Not unless the + is Nick Bjugstad or Quinton Howden.

I agree.

I think we will add at least one d-man this offseason though.

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Whitney-Jokinen-Yakupov
Smyth-Gagner-D.Jones
Jones-Horcoff-Hemsky

Suter-Carle
Smid-Petry
Whitney-Schultz

Dubnyk
Khabibulin

In the offseason, I expect us to
-sign Justin Schultz
-draft Yakupov
-resign Smyth

Anything else would be a bonus. Anything less would be super disappointing.

Horc, we all know is not worth 5 mil that is Lowe's problem. I would keep Horc on the 3rd lind, move Belanger on the 3rd line wing and sign Gaustad like a previous poster stated, that would improve our bottom 6. Gaustad is huge and really good on the face off and PK.

Imo he should be a extra skater 13th forward lost a step hands of stone can't make a pass or receive one. Huge ice time number 1 in pp minutes and 1 more point than scrub Jones , the faster he is off the team the better for the Oilers.

What i think the oilers should do this off-season

FIRE tom renney and the swiss guy and hire our Ahl coach or Brent Sutter.

at the draft:
Nail Yakupov first Overall....

He is going to be a star and he will give up Two scary lines instead of 1.

Trades
Ales Hemsky to buffalo for
Drew Stafford.

Why does edmonton does this?
Stafford adds a more physical winger to our team as he got 110 hits and got 50 points on a more defensive minded team last season. Also there isnt much difference in offensive skill between Stafford and Hemsky.

Oilers trade Sam Gagner round pick for David Bolland

Why does edmonton do this?
Same reason as the hemsky traded and give us a pest to piss off the some star players on a certain team.(Vancouver)

Both trades gives us a more physical and we become better in our own zone as both forwards are good in their own zone.

New top six after first two trades
Yakupov Hopkins Stafford
Hall Bolland Eberle

Re- Signings
Dont resign Smyth,Barker, and the other crap players.

Re-sign
Petry,Dubnyk,pertell.

Free agents.

Sign Justin Shultz.
Sign Brad Stuart
if we dont sign Brad stuart: Go after Matt Carle

2012-2013 Edmonton Oilers

Yakupov Hopkins Stafford
Hall Bolland Eberle
Paajarvi Horcoff Hartikanen
Eager Belanger Jones
Pertell

Whitney Stuart
Smid Perty
Shultz Schultz
Sutton Potter

PP1
Yakupov Hall Eberle
Hopkins Whitney
PP2
Paajarvi Bolland Stafford
Shultz Perty

PK1
Bolland Belanger
Schultz Stuart
PK2
Horcoff Stafford
Smid Whitney/Perty

Dubnyk
Bulin

Is this a better team or a play-off team?

(also for the trades there is some little pieces that will be added on any side of the deals but i dont know who or what to make the deal even)

I'll be very angry if Paajarvi starts next season in the NHL. We need to let him have a chance to develop offensively.

Stuart's family lives in California. If he leaves Detroit he's obviously going to a California team.

It's not time to trade Gagner yet. When playing with Eberle and Hall he produces quite well. When he isn't playing with Eberle and Hall he's playing with bums who can't shoot the puck. He's pissed more copper and blue than anyone else in our top six and we've seen a significant improvement out of some aspect of his game each year.

On the other hand:

I would be really happy if we signed Shultz and due to media reports I think we've got the inside track on that one.

I'd be so excited if we traded Hemsky for a 2nd rounder.

I like Bolland and all but we have once again added a 3rd line center and will be cramming him into the 2nd line roll thus giving us 4 3rd/4th line centers.

I would give serious consideration to moving Hall to center, he has played there a little bit and looked okay to me. Make the move now if you are intent on getting rid of Gagner.

Are you talking about Omark or Ralph Krueger? If it's Omark, then you should at least know his name by now . If it's Krueger, then you should know he's not Swiss but German-Canadian and born in Winnipeg. x20.

Jeebus...you can't even get those facts straight, and you want us to take your ideas seriously?

I don't think it does. I can't stand sifting through hundreds of posts to find pieces of a conversation that I can follow in a linear fashion.

Chicago would never trade David Bolland for Sam Gagner, they're in win now mode and David Bolland is a decent second line center/elite third line center. They'd only be willing to give up prospects and picks for Gagner, something around Mark McNeill I can live with.

Yes exactly him referencing a "swiss" guy is a sure sign that he's not intelligent and shouldn't be taken seriously.

I never said that he wasn't intelligent, but thanks for putting words in my mouth.

I asked "how are we supposed to take your ideas seriously"? That's a fair question IMO, if you don't even know the name of who you're talking about.

A.You know i don't like that guy... B. Who? A. I dunno his name, but we should get rid of him.

Sounds like an informed opinion to me.

What makes it especially lame is that he's already on the internet. How hard is it to go to http://oilers.nhl.com/ and find the guys name?

Bring in Brent Sutter. Bring up Todd Nelson to work with him. Put some pressure on Tambo. If Tambo doesnt get things done then move Sutter in to his position and give Nelson the head coaching job. I would trust Sutter to run this club. Look what he has done with the Rebels....

Yeah you're right, a Sutter has had NO impact on what happened it Calgary, completely helpless victims.

Ugh, No Sutters running this team. There are plenty of candidates out there that aren't Sutters.

And running a WHL team, though it takes some skill, isn't close to what running an NHL team is like.
