Wouldn't Mind Re-signing Zanon

He has impressed me with his game. He's is the type of 7th D-man we need.

Yeah, I would be fine with that. He plays physically, blocks shots...he is a solid depth guy. I wouldn't mind having him around for insurance next year at the right price. I also think having a full off-season to digest the Bs system, and come back in next year with a better idea of how he fits into the puzzle would help as well.

No issues with it, as long as he isn't paired with the initials JC, he'd be a fine addition/re-sign

Zanon is a solid # 6 D.He is fine when he is paired with someone like McQuaid.Zanon knows his limitations ,unfortunately right now the B's are expecting more from Zanon than he is capable of giving. He doesn't have much skill but usually plays a safe game.

If Zanon accepts a deal at 2 million cap hit for 1-3 years it's a good deal for Boston to take.

Zanon makes a hair under 2mil.. not going to lie, think is a bit of an overpayment for what he brings.. when you consider McQuaid makes less.

Mottau on the other hand is on the books right now for 800k.. a slight raise and thats a solid #7 with Hamilton or a #6 without.

I agree, last year I was advocating for Mottau as a quality 7th dman. Local kid,
starting to get up there in age now (33-34?), I think you might get him for less than McQuaid if you guarantee him a roster spot as the 7th dman.

If you're naive enough to think we'll go through a whole season needing only 6 defensemen?

Nowhere.

Why would they pair him with Jordan Caron?

almost done going though the entire cap situation for Defense for every NHL team. There are exactly Zero teams that pay 2 million for a 7th d-man.

in fact most teams don't pay that for a 5th or 6th never mind a 7th.

There are some that don't pay that for a 4th.

So am I still naive because I don't want Zanon back for a 2 million cap hit because there is no room for him in the top six? Care to agrue your naive comment Dojji?

I agree I love Mottau as a 7, but NOT as a 6.

In terms of Zannon, I would like him back, but I think he can get a better deal somewhere else than I would give him to stay. I would probably offer Zannon 1 year at 2 million, or 2 years at a total of 3 million, but I wouldn't go past that. And honestly not sure we can afford those deals deending on what happens with Kelly

your last point is the point.

Can we afford to pay Zannon 2 million as a 7th D. That would be the most expenseive 7th D in the NHL. I would rather give someone like 850k and spend the extra money trying to get Parise or something like that.

The Bruins already have one of the most expensive top 6 D in the NHL. Why add to that with an expensive 7th?

Oh I agree there is no chance of him coming back as the #7. I guess it is more if they decide they want to send Hamilton down again next year, then Zannon would be a solid alternative.

Please don't take this personally, but if I don't vent once in a while I'll give myself hives.

The title of this thread contains no subject. It is a fragment, and everyone on this site is typing like this. "Wouldn't Mind Re-signing Zanon"...WHO wouldn't mind re-signing Zanon? You? Chiarelli? Clode?

I don't mean to single you out, OP, and I understand that this is the "next level of cyberspeak", so to speak, and that this train has pulled out of the station. I just had to vent.

/end rant

Hamilton will be with the Bruins next year so there is no need for Zannon unless the Bruins plan to move another D to make room. I don't see why that would be done as Zannon is not an upgrade on any of the current 6 that will be in next year.

Z
Sides
Boychuk
Ference
McQuaid
Hamilton (Can not play in Prov. its Boston on JR and he is not staying in JR)

only option to keep little z is as a 7th (to expensive) or because of a trade. I don't want to see either happen (unless the trade is a big win of course).

I wouldn't take it as a given that Zanon gets $2m next year. Dude was a healthy scratch in Minny frequently, and is a 6/7 man in Boston. I don't think he can reasonably expect that kind of money from anyone.

I wouldn't mind them resigning him.

Hopefully Corvo's money goes off the books and the reality is Hamilton may not be ready for a full NHL season and if Hamilton is ready, injuries etc happen. He would be a solid 7th d-man and IMO a better move to make than having a kid who should be playing in Providence as a healthy scratch.

Depends a lot on what the deal is. Mottau may be the better move.

Also, it is possible Chia has his sights on some other defenseman in the league for trade or free agency signing.

good point but I don't see him going under a million. Most teams pay their 5-6 between 1-1.75 million. the 7th D is usually under a million and as I said the B's top 6 is one of the more expensive in the NHL. I don't want more money tied up in D when I think the money should be used on the front end.
