Who has said that they think Staal is going to be a Sabre next year?

People want him. I'm sure everyone knows it's unlikely to happen.

I do, people also want Ennis and Hodgson to play both top 6 center roles.

Both have a chance to happen, both don't.

I'd say the chances of either happening are pretty equal.

You're robbing Peter to pay Paul.

The object is to hoard young centers, not use them as trade chips.

Y'all are willing to give up way too much for Stall. He's good, and would be a good hit, but isn't exactly the dynamo #1 center the packages you're proposing would suggest.

Staal is a good player but people are willing to give way to much up to get him. With Ennis,Hodgson and potentially roy next season we have no need for offense and if im paying a steep price for a defensive center I could give up less for a hanzal type player or Pavelski or Zajac.

I'd rather draft a sound defensive center like Gaunce and develop him than give everythin and the kitchen sink for staal but thats just me...

Still not going to get Staal. I rather get two centers a 3rd line guy and a 4th line guy and a big pwf winger

Well staal is one of the best defensive centers in the league and if we move roy for a defensive center we will be lacking offense down the middle, i think staal would be worth whatever the asking price is

As far as players off the roster go, as i said, i dont think we would need to add any one else from our lineup. We could still add a pick or prospect

Gosh, he's good but not THAT good.
I guess the grass is always greener.

He's also missed 60 games in the last two seasons.

So the difference between a non-playoff team with inconsistent players and a Stanley cup contender is:

Roy, Gerbe, and Leopold for Staal and nobody else but the same inconsistent players from last year?

There are too many question marks on this team to think this team is one player away.
Even if We get Staal:

Is Ennis gonna be able to handle a full year @ center?
Is Cody gonna take the next step in development?
How is the Lockerroom gonna handle the Ruff-Player situation?
Is Miller gonna grow up and stop whining to the media?
Will Enroth develop more?
Is Regehr gonna show more decline in his speed?
Will Foligno take the a step forward or have a sophmore slump?
Do we have enough Grit on this team in the top 6?

Those are just a few things I'm worried about, I have more but don't feel like listing them now.

"...get him to consider..."

So you are willing to trade big assets for Staal and then just hope Pegula money will "get him to consider" staying in Buffalo for more than one season?

Maybe I'm not making myself clear, but don't you and other pro-Staal posters understand what a monumental gamble that is? Do you not see the absolute REQUIREMENT to have Staal sign long-term in contigency with the trade? For this to make sense for Buffalo, Staal will have to decide somewhere between July 1st and the finality of the trade (I assume before August) to give up his 2013 UFA jackpot and freedom of team choice, and decide to be in Buffalo for the next 4-10 years. Decide after getting traded from a bona-fide Cup contender that a mediocre franchise like Buffalo is the place for him long term. Maybe he would be good with that, but it's absolute crazy talk (to borrow zip's term) to just trade big for him and then hope it works out and he stays, no matter how much $$$ Pegula has to throw at him.

The injuries I remember (and it's possible I'm forgetting one):
1) A skate sliced his toe.
2) A puck broke his hand.
3) A mild MCL sprain.

The first two are freak things that I wouldn't read too much into. The third one seems fairly minor, especially since he only missed a little over a month and played great when he came back. More importantly, they are 3 totally unrelated injuries, and none of them were head injuries.

Not arguing whether or not he's "THAT good," but I don't think the 60 games missed are necessarily a red flag. I'd be much more worried if he'd missed time with a concussion or had some chronic knee or groin issue that never seemed to go away.

So you can't find a single one, well I guess that supports my theory.

So you seriously think Shero wants a 5'9" soft 3rd line center who is older and trending downward, for one of the leagues premier checking line centers who is younger and on the incline? Seriously, you actually think their GM is that dumb?

They are going to get a young, righty shot winger, to play with Crosby, for their 3rd line center. And I'm sure they will try to add a future insurance prospect or pick. Think more along the lines of Staal for Stafford and Armia or a something like that.

The proposal with Roy was Roy, Armia and Sekera or a first. Roy is a transition year player and Armia is the sexy bit to put with Sid. Roy isn't the sexy part of the proposal.

Very un-sexy. That's like 2 super models and Rosie O'Donnell. Otherwise known as, a deal breaker.
