A tired B's fan here to say: congratulations to you and your team. You deserved to win. I saw a lot of tenacity and commitment from your team. Despite Ovechkin's relative lack of production, I enjoyed his duel with Seidenberg in the first few games. Good luck in the road ahead.

Dude seriously? You want one of those ****ing mods that shuts threads down and hands out infractions the moment a conversation goes anywhere beyond token hockey platitudes? If all mods were like warden (minus the Boudreau thingy) the rest of this site would actually be bearable somewhat.

It's an archaic cliche that's not remotely true. Dale Hunter doesn't have them playing playoff hockey any more than Boudreau had them playing playoff hockey, or any more than Wilson had them playing playoff hockey.

'Playoff hockey' is winning battles, sacrificing your body, and, above all, winning games.

The Flyers played playoff hockey against the Pens.
Yeah not one battle won or body sacrificed in the entire series.

100% all on Holtby. If BB is around this series is over in 4 like all the other series against opponents that aren't coached by ****ing Torts.

I'd say execution and attention to detail are the biggest part after winning games, and they at least have half of that down pat.

Bolded is the truth. Seems like half way through the regular season someone in the NHL office sent down a mandate to the refs to initiate nirvana/pearl jam-esque 90s revival of interference. Personally I hate it like I will do mobius loop-wise against the devils for the 90s (no offense to the NJ fans here just my IMHO).

A bit too much credit for one key play wouldn't you say?

Holtby
Alzner
Semin/Carlson

I disagree.

Teams that play very good to great defense compete for the Cup.

Everyone else goes home.

I really don't want to get into a protracted discussion on this and I'm not sure what you're trying to say here, but there have been many issues which have divided this board over the years and never will one side be given free reign to post while the other side gets silenced...for any reason.

I found the regular season GDTs last year to be ******* unbearable, but I didn't go around deleting every post *****ing that we we were winning our way to the 1 seed the wrong way just because I happened to find it obnoxious.

The biggest plus I can give dale is him keeping nick and ovi separate to have his line away from chara. This was pretty obvious to me. But many complained about it early on and it's a valid topic for consideration. But IMHO, it was a key.

He extended some plays... Had one good centering pastas well.

But he's useless on the pp, and also his benefits aren't above and beyond others sitting compared to hs downside.
Maybe Caps can decide a new matchup requires different personnel and try someone else in Aucoin's place, maybe end his NHL career on a high note. I dunno. I wish Halpern would come back sometime. But I have to thank Aucoin for that one play today. Maybe someone else would've done the same thing but you never know.

I'm gonna go watch the end of the game again.

Hunter's press conference is on the washingtoncaps.com website now. The first couple of minutes are pretty cool.

There is some small amount of glory to be found in beating the Stanley Cup champs. This definitely feels different than the other first round wins to me. It feels more like a second round win, although it's hard to remember that feeling since I've felt it only twice. Oh, man. That would be pretty funny if this were the year it happened again. I'm rooting for a matchup with the Devils, for sure, which would require Devils and Senators to win. Rangers just look too good to me right now. I don't care what anyone says--if you count shootout wins as ties, Boston has been a sub-.500 team this entire calendar year. I just don't think they are a very good team right now. The Rangers are a very good team right now and I think you would have to be crazy to want to play them.

From the post-game and some other comments he's made, it seems like Hunter just loves Holtby.

If I may offer an IT peace pipe so to speak and redirect this discourse to a subject that I think we all agree on (except for TXPD), and that is Dennis Wideman still sucks.

I give huge credit to the Mods for dealing with Caps fans.

We are a handful.

I laugh every time I see other teams posters call Caps fans fair weather.

They have no idea the STORMS we have witnessed and endured.

Maybe we are all a little bit crazy.

I'm not going anywhere with this... Just repeating what was pm'd to me from on high actually during this game.

It has nothing to do with u. By mood it doesn't mean opinion. And i think it's more tone/civility than "mood" as feelings.

I might have my ice time complaints with hunter but completely agreed with this tactic. And that is how it goes in the playoffs. Seen it time and time before when the top weapons/defense are cancelled out. Due to my Capitals fatalistic/long time view of life didn't think it would pay off but it did.

They did it against Nashville earlier in the year too, and it worked. They ended up splitting Weber and Suter trying to cover both lines.
