I think that's a stretch.... I'd rather have Rask/Khudobin than....

Dafoe/Tallas

Is Thomas done with the Bruins?

Hi guys,

After the disappointing loss yesterday while talking it over with friends, we all got a feeling that we might have seen the last of Thomas in a Bruins jersey. Its like he seemed relieved to be done. Whether it be retirement or asking for a trade, something seemed off to us.

Did anyone else get the feeling that something is up?

Unfortunately yes. They wanna play Tukka and I doubt Tukka wants to sit another year. I give props to him for waiting this long I dont think I could have knowing there are about 20 other teams I could be starting on.

I'd put money down that Tim Thomas is in net for the Bruins opening night

The one thing I will caution is reading rumors and speculation:

ex. "They played well, they are still champions in my eyes" Thomas after game 7 loss

Haggs is spinning Thomas' "they" comments to be Thomas separating himself from the organization.

Murphy is taking Thomas' "they" comments to be Thomas giving his teammates their due and stating that he was proud of them.

Two guys, same line, two different interpretations.

I agree with my friend from Lethbridge and a few others. Trading Thomas will be an instantly regretful decision.

Sign Rask. Play them 50/50 to start the season and see what happens.

Perhaps you missed when Rask led the league in GAA and Save % two years ago. Are you really comparing Tuukka Rask to John Grahame? When is the last time you watched a Bruins game?

I think they'll explore a trade, but they'll realize they can't get anything better than a 2nd rounder and grinder for him, so they'll keep him.

I love Timmy....guy is a hero. But that said....we could use that money and Rask needs to be "the guy".
I will hate seeing Timmy in another Jersey, but I will always wish him well.
Yes, unfortunately I would say so. Neely is upset with his white house snub and since Neely allegedly is Chiarelli's boss, I would say Thomas has seen his last day as a Bruin. This really bothers me as I do not think Rask is close to good enough to keep the team at anything more than a mediocre level.
Really? On what do you base this opinion?

Didn't Dafoe have an 11 shutout season once?

I love Rask and I've been vocal about dealing Timmy and trust him, but let's not undersell Lord Byron

I think it's more than the return from whatever the trade package may be. I think it comes down to $5m in cap space for next season. The actual return on the trade is just incremental to that for a 38 year-old goaltender with a year remaining on his contract.

That is just plain silly

John Grahme struggled to post a 900 save percentage with the Bruins. He failed to reacht that mark in 2 of his 4 years

Tuukka has posted save percentages on .931, .918, .929 in his 3 seasons in Boston. His Career GAA is 2.20 and that is with the bad year thrown in.

Khouby is a bit of an unkown. His brief chances in the NHL have been stellar, but very brief.

True. I debated about taking him out of there and focusing on the Grahame/Shields awfulness.

I still can't be convinced of the downside of keeping TT for his last contract year.

A) 38 year old goalies on expiring contracts aren't likely to garner a haul
B) Tim Thomas is still a top 10 goalie, easily
C) Rask, as much as I love him, has had some health question marks
D) It's not like prior seasons where we needed to consider moving TT to free up space to acquire a big name. We have the space already.
E) Any locker room issues or troubles related to the WH thing are just garbage. The fact folks think it's a real issue among hockey players shocks me. The media loves this stuff and apparently there are enough gullible people to believe it.

This is my issue, too. I mean, he's almost 40. But, therein lies our problem as well, in that you likely won't get a lot for Thomas at this point. Rask is not yet ready (though he ought to be). Tough call for Chia here.

Horton's future availablity will be key.
Hamilton's availability as well.

????????????????

as for point E, There's just no way to know. This team is tight. They said themselves, like any family, they have disagreements. But when Andy Ference, Captain Planet himself is one of your vocal team leaders, and you've got a bunch of Canadian and European players on the team who probably tend to be a bit on the liberal side, you've got to wonder if Tim's statements (if not his WH absence) perhaps chaffed some people a bit. NOT SAYING IT DID--just that we can't know for sure. It also may not have any affect on his future in Boston either way, regardless.

It's 4 million of cap space, and while we are not desperate for cap space, once the Bruins resign a couple of their guys, with the other new contracts kicking in, there really isn't going to be space to bring in an impact type player

If they wait for next year they get nothing in return if he leaves. This year they could get some decent value. No you are not getting a superstar, but you might be able to get another late #1 and a prospect, or another top 9 skater and a pick.

And keeping Thomas means another year off Tuukka;s career where he plays 30 games, and no playoff time. So another year that does nothing for his development as a player, and another year where we can all speculate as to whether he can actually play in the league
