He would be a good fit for any team that has a promising prospect to step in within 2-3 years. They can ride on Thomas for a year and sign him to a backup/mentor role till he retires.

However, it will be a competitive selling market with Vokoun, the possibility of Luongo, and perhaps Kipper available this offseason.

What are Bruins fans hoping for in return from, say, Tampa? Decent prospect + decent pick?

Just totally spitballing here, but what about something like V. Namestnikov or J.T. Brown + MIN 2nd? Or maybe something around Ryan Malone (if he waives)?

i dont think Lucic would like Beach on the team

Beach was one of the kids that called him "hunchback" in juniors. needless to say Lucic got angry

Thomas would be perfect for a team that's a goalie away from being a serious contender next year. But how many teams is that? Chicago maybe, Florida?... San Jose? New Jersey maybe if Brodeur retires.

I don't know, I think Thomas is a great talent but he's a rental and the problem is most teams who are already planning on being contenders have a goalie set in place.

**** is said on the ice. players deal with it and move on, its not as personal as fans think it is. however beach does scare me because i have heard he is a head case.

either way i think the hawks are a decent partner. i really think Bickell is the real deal and just had a sophomore slump this year. something around him would be fine with me.

Tim Thomas
Bruins first 2012
Dougie Hamilton

VS

COLUMBUS 1st
David Savard

Columbus get their 1st goalie and a strong young d-man in Hamilton

Bruins get 2nd overall and a good young d-man in Savard

Overpayment by Columbus for a goalie that will play well for a max of 3 years.( likely 2 )

I don't see why the Bruins would trade him. He has two Vezina's and a Conn Smythe during the last few years of his career with the Bruins. Ride him until he retires. If Rask truly is ready, I doubt Thomas would mind starting 35-40 games while giving Rask the rest of the games at this point in his career, especially because he's accomplished everything now.

Thomas to the Hawks makes sense

not sure what we could/would give up for him. Crawford to back up Rask & prospect close to the NHL like Morin or a higher pick?

i agree Chicago would be a good place to trade him, what would a Hawks fan want to give up realistically?

Tim Thomas is 38 years old. Any team that takes him will....

A - Need that final piece to win the cup right now

or

B - are looking for a mentor for a young goalie.

chicago fits the first......so.......

Brandon Saad for Tim Thomas.......straight up

Toronto fits the second.....so.......

Greg McKegg + 2nd or 3rd round pick

With the goalie market the way it is right now, Thomas is not going to garner much more than that in an open market.

It's very hard to say. The goalie market isn't strong since nearly every teams as a solid #1 goalie or a shaky #1 goalie.

Best bet are Toronto and Columbus but it would really depends what the Bruins are asking. No team will overprice for Thomas unless the deal is done at the trade deadline while having strong numbers.

i like the Chicago deal, it sends TT out of conference and to a contender (who i actually like) and garners the Bruins a promising potential top 6 forward. i would be on board for that.

Hawks would never consider Saad for Thomas. Really, never.

Thomas would be good for the Hawks, but not worth our best prospect. Too many holes on the Roster to make a mistake like this

even if Thomas is the piece that makes them a favorite to win it next year? he would also mentor Crawford for in 2-3 years TT retires

Emery will be the backup. Crawford would be gone. a 27/28 year old doesn't need a mentor.

Thomas is not the only missing piece and Saad is a keeper.

i thought Crawford was younger, my mistake. i do think Chi is the best trading partner though, what about their 2012 1st?

I see Thomas as a good fit for the Leafs - much better than Luongo.
Thomas can mentor Reimer/Scrivens for a year or two, easing them in, before retiring.
(That seems to have worked out pretty well for Rask!)

Don't really know what Boston's needs would be tho...
Wouldn't give up a ton for him, since guys like Vokoun could be had for nothing.
